Doesn’t he also have to do things for his job? 35 minutes ago, Reality said: I will support and vote for whoever is on the Democratic ticket, but Dems desperately need to get their act together. If they replace Biden, they need to work 10x harder to push forward whoever the new nominee is (probably Kamala). They need to get her out, have her do more interviews, have strong and consistent messaging that is beyond "At least we're not Donald Trump," have her participate in debates, pick an equally strong VP, etc., etc., etc. Even though we're still months out from the election, a campaign takes time. Suddenly switching your nominee—who is an incumbent president—will not be easy and in fact, I think will be harder than if Biden were to just run as the candidate. Same. It also seems a little counterproductive to say that you support democratic ideals and fighting for democracy but then usurp the decision of 14 million people that voted for him in the primary to have others decide the nominee. Feels like an unforced error on the Democratic Party and plays right into Trump, GOP and Fox News’ hand. I have no doubts Harris will be a capable president but her favorability ratings have been worse than Biden’s since the start of the presidency. Given her primary performance she seems like a worse campaigner than Biden. Here for a Harris/Buttigieg ticket though with him as VP obviously. He’s a good debater, public speaker, campaigner, and handling media appearances. Brings the Midwest and veteran appeal out as well as LGBT component. In addition to that young, white male safety net. Bronco 25,941
Honestly momentum is everything in politics and the momentum behind these calls to stand down are at "giant boulder speeding down the mountain" levels. UK evening media were even reporting Obama had privately spoken to him urging him to step away. If Biden is still the presumptive nominee on Monday I'll be shocked. There is no way the senior Democratic machinery will let him stay in place and force a messy National Convention. The gays know how to party

Roughhouse Dandy 13,701
If reports are true and Biden steps aside, they better get their sh*t together and run for their lives. More interviews, press write-ups, debates, commercials, etc than we've gotten so far combined. I still think it's dumb but I'm throwing my support behind anyone with the best chance to keep these demons out of power. Does anyone know if speaker becomes VP or if the administration gets to pick a new one? What're the guidelines here? This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss. Trump has fallen asleep in his own trial in the courtroom and questionably at the RNC. He trips/slips all the time. He confuses where he is and state/world leaders. The problem is Trump supporters support Trump regardless while Biden supporters turn into Chicken Little convinced the sky is falling over every slight misstep. At this point it’s become embarrassing because some top level democrats have publicly spoken out against him. Of course it’s again where Sanders, AOC & squad are defending Biden while Pelosi and allies are trying to get him to step down.

For the campaign, I’m fairly certain she’d be at liberty to pick whoever she wanted for VP. If Biden *resigned*, I’m pretty sure the VP would have to be confirmed by Congress. Sure, which is why I think it’s probably more likely that Biden opts not to run for re-election, but probably doesn’t resign from office. But we’ll have to see. Kamala has that endearing goofy energy that Bush has! She had potential! The liberal “black women can’t win” is complete bullshit. Dems need to go off and she WILL sweep. Ayesha Erotica 1,925
An old person is 65% more likely to vote than a young person, and is more likely to vote for an old person ( https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/voter-turnout-rate-by-age-usa ) . So 50 oldies have effectively more voting power than 80 youngies. When Biden will be exchanged, Dems will lose portions of the old demographics that Trump will have unchallenged for himself. The old Americans decide the vote because young people statistically more likely play video games on election day instead of going voting, so having an old candidate is of advantage. It isn't wise to exchange Biden now by a lesser prominent candidate who wasn't in the spotlight the past year. Kamala will have her opportunity to shine in 4 years, now it is too late and sending her right now in a rush unprepared could 'cause her a humiliation defeat that could have negative effects if she decides to run again in 4 years because she will be branded as a loser like Hillary Clinton, who then wasn't given a second chance and exchanged by Biden, and that could happen to Harris, too. It's better to send her when she is normally prepared in 4 years. MOT 3,614
I want the Dems to run the candidate wbo has the best chance of beating Trump. I don't know who that is. It's tricky. If Biden announces that he's withdrawing, does he not have to step down as Pres ? What I mean is, if he withdraws, he can only do it on health grounds (what other reason is credible). And if he's not fit to run, does that not mean that he's not fit to be Pres ? That means that Kamala has a couple of months to be President (and be good at it). If that happens, you are looking at a new Kamala, a more electable one than the existing Kamala.

Monstermilo 5,473
I would love for Kamala to run instead but I’m afraid she would meet the same fate as Hillary, the US is still deeply sexist - especially in politics but anything’s better than Biden at this point

The data you shared only goes to 2016, which leaves out that 2020 had the highest youth turnout since 1972 at 55%, which is on par with every other age group. Since Trump is undoubtedly the reason so many young people turned out (to vote against him) it would be logical to think we'll see similar youth turnout in 2024. Kamala is about to be the nominee whether people think she's "ready" or not. This kitten over here (meow)
