Imo what's stopping Biden from winning isn't Trump, but rather people who are unenthusiastic about either candidate to bother voting—particularly when it comes to the younger vote. Neither Biden nor Trump excite young voters, and while Kamala is comparatively more "exciting," her policies generally aren't progressive enough for those who crave actual change. She's still very much representative of the establishment in DC.

And I'm not saying that Trump all of a sudden made America bigoted. America's been bigoted since its inception. But I think it'd be dishonest to say that Trump's influence hasn't amplified hate crimes and rhetoric over the past 8 years. And no, I don't think it's just a "few crazies online." Trump still has a lot of support. It's literally why we're having this discussion about whether or not Biden can beat him.

Shes more cogent than he is, seemingly more pro palestine than he is, and more progressive than he is.

I’m wary of calling her progressive but she’s an upgrade over Biden. I think she’s just the easiest and best option because she’ll have access to the war chest, she’s been essential in the good parts of the Biden presidency, and passing her over might upset a lot of people 

For once, this moment isn’t about conservative vs. progressive dems, but it shouldn’t stay this way I agree

Also I didn’t say Trump’s support is only because of a few crazies online. I said extreme bigotry is. Republicans JUST held a primary with a black candidate, an indian one, and female candidate doing well enough to be serious contenders.

Obviously that’s not me calling Republicans the best option for minorities and women, but it proves most Americans are shed away enough bigotry to be pragmatic about policy in their votes. It’s a low bar but it’s all that matters here

All I have to say to the young voters/not being progressive enough take - I mean that’s a seperate convo. I agree with you, but the moment rn is “is Biden good enough to stay on the ticket against Trump” and the answer seems to be an ever growing “no!”

Comparatively, yes, Kamala is all those things you mentioned. But when she's also the vice president, I think it's valid to put some of the blame on her when Biden/his administration do things we don't necessarily like or disagree with. And she is still an establishment-type politician who will more than likely maintain the status quo. She'll probably be more "progressive" in some ways, but I don't think it's enough.

Btw I want to be clear that IF Biden steps down as the Democratic nominee, I'm 99.99% certain Kamala will take his spot. All of these names people like to throw around of who "should replace" Biden are unrealistic imo. So I don't think anyone's passing over her.

And were any of the Republican candidates "serious contenders"? Sure, Nikki Haley held on for a minute, but none of them were serious contenders. It was Trump's to lose the entire time. They even talked about how it was unrealistic for any of them to win during the primary debates.

Perhaps I should reframe the way I presented the argument initially. I don't think that the vast majority of Americans are extremely bigoted people, but I do think it's clear many of them are willing to look past Trump's bigoted rhetoric to fall in line. If nothing he's said over the past 8 years has fazed them enough not to vote for him, then I think they're complicit in continuing to prop up this man and the bigoted rhetoric he keeps spewing. And that will unfortunately only be amplified by the fact that Kamala is a Black/Asian woman.

I agree with your first paragraph - it’s just that there isn’t really room right now for a Tim Walz or Josh Shapiro to come save us. I wish there was, and this Dem primary was an abomination, but we are stuck I fear. I’m not genuinely Kamala stan but the mourn of the loss of M4A and such shall continue.

but yeah obviously racism and sexism still exist, but it’s not strong enough to have a campaign be DOA, say like a trans woc activist would be - sadly. Many Americans may fall inline, but I dont think it’s enough to win an election. The choice of elections is always dealt by independents who stan voting for the couch, and I think Dems on average have a much better serve when they get turned out

Atp Kamala’s identity is at best something to inspire tomorrow’s children and at worst a cynical ploy to be abused to excuse trash policy - which is a fight worth having, but first priority is beating Trump before fighting the Dem moderates - I fear Kamala may be the only hope

Too bad Marianne Williamson didn’t stand a chance. She was close to Bernie in terms of policies. And her speeches were beautiful, thoughtful, reflective of US history.
