Trigger 229
It's heartwarming that Gaga's so supportive while so many of her own inspirations like Grace Jones and Madonna were so openly critical. Edited July 9 by Trigger

I do agree that we’re past the era of superstars but Billie is a clear exception to that, and Chappell is seemingly on the same path She's incredibly successful... So is Taylor Swift. Wheter their music is good or not.. that's another question. And in My personal opinion their music is terrible. chromaticainmyhead 6,348
I wish there was a format like Actors on Actors but with musicians and pop icons because that rivalry is doing more harm than good and always has been. fan-tas-tique, chic, freak, slaaaay

I think you've missed my point though, Chappel Roan very clearly has an understanding of fashion given her skill with the camp aesthetic - it takes skill and understanding to be camp without being trashy. Camp was even used as a recent Met Gala theme. To say Chappel isn't on Gaga's level with fashion simply because she follows a different aesthetic betrays your knowledge of fashion. not even huge quantity was used, as ppl have said bf, that doesn't cost more than 100$ but that wasnt even the case, the designer got the meat from his family butchery in argentina, most probably the only cost was the shipping, and they literally carried it in a portable cooler, the ones you use to go to the beach, i dont know why you count the drying and preservation in the costs, thats something separate from the look itself and it didnt even fell on the haus of Gaga count, that was The Rock and roll hall of fame, the haus originally intended for it to rot... Im not into the chappel debate, im just clarifying as ppl were acting as if the meat dress cost a lot of money or was a display of luxury, not at all, im sure it cost them next to nothing. The preservation of it alone cost the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 6.000$. not at all, the truth is it cost next to nothing to the haus, the preservation of it is a separate thing from the look and as you said went in the count of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, the Haus originally intended for it to rot, not to be preserved... MadArchitect 563
4 hours ago, Didymus said: lol The question of the cost was big in 2010. NYC butchers confirmed to reporters it was all cheap cuts of meat that couldn't have cost more than ca. $100 total. Google it. They just froze the dress afterwards. It didn't cost Gaga's team anything, nor was the preservation process that expensive in itself. Literally just bleach, formaldehyde and a dye. not even that price, the designer the haus partnered with to make the dress said it was from his own family butchery in Argentina, most probably if anything the only cost was shipment, it really was the most cheaper thing they couldve made, the irony is that literally any regular dress that night everyone elses worn cost more to make, meat is by far a cheaper textile in comparison Edited July 9 by MadArchitect
MadArchitect 563
3 hours ago, Bronco said: I love how everyone's like Gaga didn't have a massive record label behind her when trying to discredit an actual indie artist. $100 on meat alone, before staff got paid for constructing the outfit & before they paid to freeze the outfit (which they did for months before the Hall of Fame paid to have it turned into jerky). Meanwhile, Chappel's immaculate album cover outfit I'm using as a comparison by her own admission is from the thrift store & self funded as her label had dropped her. No ones trying to say someone is better here. Just pointing out that some of y'all's idea of fashion is "high end designers only". Y'all should be Madonna fans. her label was never a part of Gagas fashion choices, so they werent behind it, i bet if anything they were clutching their pearls for Gaga not to wear such crazyness, that even if her or the haus told them what they were going to do, Her creative team which is the haus of Gaga and her label work separately, and this is something he has said, she even formed it before she was signed to interscope, the label is only in charge of the distribution and promotion of her music, and surely they work together and fund them for more elaborate and promotional end projects such as music videos, but the meat dress was a complete act of punk rebellion from her and her team. Pay to a museum to freeze an outfit for months? how much can it cost to have streaks of meat in a freezer? and how do u know they had to pay for it if R&RHOF already had it? to me it seems they just donated it to the musium by their own petition and they froze it before they figured out what to do with it, thats how museums work lol Chappel is not an indie artist anymore, there are also a lot of pricier than 100$ items in thrift stores too, and im sure she had to pay her team for the styling, make up, set and photography, signed or unsigned, just as everyone else has to, to a varying degrees of course, i'm not sure whats the point here

Well your point was not Billie having bad music, it was her having "no real impact on music" which is by all metrics incorrect Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something? Franch Toast 25,908
Getting back on topic, as someone who appreciates both artists, I would love a collaboration one day. However, I wouldn't mind if that was a bit down the road to give Chappell more time to establish herself on her own. I see a lot of early Gaga in Chappell, but of course they are each unique. They clearly admire one another, so there's no need to pit them against each other. She/Her/Hers
