They've literally had iranian singers performing protest songs in their own shows at the height of the Iranian conflict, they just brought a Palestine artist to sing with them at Glastonbury. I think their stance on these kind of topics is pretty clear Edited June 30 by Guest
TEANUS 12,421
We’ve now made it to 2024 - where somehow people try to find a way to make even Coldplay, a pinnacle for progression, humanity, and peace in rock/pop music over the last 20 years, problematic, performative, or offensive lol British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS 5

Saying “peace 😍💕” is NOT joining a conversation. We do not live in a world where such statements do ANYTHING at all. So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

If you're frustrated it's because you're expecting what they never promised you in the first place. I just don’t fully understand what the goal is anymore. If celebrities say nothing, then they’re silent and complacent. But if they make a call for peace, its, as someone put it here, “liberal bullshit”? The band, Chris especially, has been pretty clear what their stance is on specific matters and I can’t see how a general call and message for peace all over the world somehow invalidates that. Nor do I see why an attempt at trying to get people to think about something going on on another shore, think about the feeling and need for peace, and feel the heaviness that comes with thinking of such thing is something worth ridiculing. He didn’t do an “all lives matter moment” like some people in here wanna say, all he did was try to get his audience to take a moment to think about the plight of someone else if only for a moment.

Not to sound like a broken record, but again they HAVE been in this conversation, and honestly were having it before a lot of of people were. Coldplay, Chris Martin especially, has long been an advocate and supporter of various causes and many times through this tour, including just recently, have made an effort to platform Palestinians and their plight. What he was doing here was not some attempt at making some statement on any specific event, it was an attempt to make this audience in the midst of an event that is so steeped in their privilege as free and unopressed people which allows them to attend to take a moment to reflect on the suffering of someone else. I don’t see how that is a bad thing?

Inviting a Palestinian singer to share the stage with them, headlining one of the biggest music festivals in the world, is a bit more than just saying "peace". 4

Didymus 34,379
10 hours ago, Future Lovers said: They have made their stance EXPLICITLY clear MULTIPLE times. Not really true. Their support for Palestine has never been paired with a targeted rejection of Israeli politics. It's always been an all lives matter thing, except when they promoted the controversial Freedom for Palestine video, but even there they didn't mention anything about their own stance; the controversy came from the song's lyrics, and Coldplay's involvement was never clarified (and when the post got deleted and attracted negative press, they never bothered to clarify it). There's nothing wrong with calling for peace but it is literally the most basic white ass move you could pull out of your ass. It's fine, but also completely unworthy of any praise. It's literally a beauty pageant cliché lol, this isn't about "when celebs do say something it's also not good!!!!" at all. There's just the status quo numbing out of popular culture that makes us feel better about doing nothing because we're all good people who want peace. Except that's a lie and there's easy things we can do to hold those accountable who don't want peace, and we somehow never hear about those.
