elijahfan 24,869
Can't even remember the last Pixar film I saw in theaters... I'd definitely go see this one, but the first movie made me cry pretty hard so I'm a bit wary.

Soul deserved so much but Luca and Turning Red were quite good too. Such a shame they were released at that time.

andy232000 9,870
Just finished watching this. Never really cared for the first film and thought this one was better. I just could not relate to sadness as the antagonist, but this time around with Anxiety as the “bad guy”, yes, absolutely. I did not enjoy as much that they antagonized anxiety from the get go when she actually had some pretty good and valid ideas. She had a point, its just she crossed the line further as the film went on (I guess thats part of the point. Anxiety can be a good thing if you know how to harness it, or a bad thing if you let it lose) I think it makes a great point at saying that we are all deeply flawed people, and that is ok. We can be selfish, caring, bad, good, and all that is what makes us unique.

Future Lovers 6,439
2 hours ago, Anveeroy said: https://boycott.thewitness.news/target/disney Here's the thing, and I say this as someone is ardent defender of Palestine: these company boycotts are doing more harm than good. They're a distraction. They're getting in the way of what we actually need to be doing. The people who do take them seriously are promoting them in a hugely disorganized fashion rendering their entire goal nearly useless. There is no leadership, no structure, and every day there's random new companies added to it with very little explanation as to why. Then on the opposite end you've got people who don't really care at all but bad faith actors and are pushing these efforts to try and make you stop paying attention to who and what you actually need to be boycotting. Disney is on this list due to a donation they made to an imprint of the red cross shortly after October 7. While I've got no doubt in the past they've also donated money (I'm not entirely sure of that, frankly, I don't really know if there's any sources to back that up), as far as I'm aware they've not made any donations since. American corporations are the kings of face-saving donations. They throw money at whatever situation is happening in the world that they believe are going to score them brownie points in the eyes of the public because it makes them look like they're empathetic to the struggles of the people. They'll donate a few million here, a few million there, all the while the little bits of money they hand out to whatever cause they think most Americans think are noble represents maybe half a percent of the amount of money they have on hand. Whatever money they donate at 9 AM they'll have made back by noon. With Disney this was an especially performative donation because I would bet every single penny I own they did it because there's a belief among people that Walt Disney was an antisemite despite there being a lot more evidence to the contrary than to the confirmation. But that doesn't matter, the thought is out there, and they've gone to great lengths before to try and push that thought out of the zeitgeist. I can guarantee that was part of their thought process here, no matter how asinine and tone deaf such an idea is on their part (wouldn't be the first time they've done something stupid like that either). That isn't to say their donation was a move worth celebrating as I'm sure their couple million went to something bad. That is worthy of you speaking up and saying you don't like it. But these companies that made donations to Israel after October 7 are not the ones who're funding a war effort by the hundreds of millions every single day. They're not the ones propping up the IDF. They're not the ones who're pushing for unfavorable negotiations. They're not the ones standing up on TV and saying that Israel has a right to be doing anything it's done. Why? Because they don't actually care. But you know who does care that also happens to have some actual influence? Your government. At all levels. These company protests are one grand diversion, whether they mean to be or not, away from you looking at your politicians. While the internet tries to convince you to throw all of your energy and efforts behind boycotting Disney or Target or the other companies on these lists, your local and state politicians are approving bills of aid to Israel. They're pushing for the sending of weapons to the IDF. They're discussing all the ways they can financially and morally and militarily support the IDF in their goals and their missions. It doesn't do a damn bit of good to try and make companies like Target and Disney and McDonald's and all those be the ones who fall on the sword for the genocide happening. They donated sure, and that is worthy of criticism and ire, I don't deny that at all. But the politicians here are the ones your attention needs to be on. Your senators, your representatives, all of them. Look into what they're doing, saying, and advocating for. Look what policies of the Biden admin in regards to Israel they're backing up. Those are your culprits. Put your energy into protesting outside your state houses. Put your energy into protesting in DC. Put your energy into calling your representatives. Put your energy in demanding your government hear that you do not support what they've chosen to support. Not going to see Inside Out 2 or not going to get your groceries at Target isn't going to save the lives of Palestinians. Putting the pressure on your government instead just might.
