I've seen a lot of confusion about the recent Metacritic scores for Charli's Brat and Taylor's The Tortured Poet's Department, so I wanted to share some thoughts to clear things up. First off, it's important to understand that the music industry in 2024 is in a unique place. The market now demands authenticity and bravery from artists. It's not just about catchy beats or deep lyrics anymore; it's about making bold moves that push boundaries and challenge the status quo. Bratย is a perfect example of this. Yes, the beats might not be groundbreaking, and the lyrics might seem shallow to some, but what sets this album apart is its rebellious spirit. Charli has done something subversive with this release, and that's what's being celebrated. It's a disruptive move in the pop music landscape, and that's how we keep the genre fresh and exciting! Rebellion and cultural resets, whether they hit the mark or not, are crucial for artistic evolution within the zeitgeist. TPD has a score of 76 on Metacritic, which has also puzzled some fans, considering the commercial success the record has had. The issue here is that Taylor, despite her immense talent, played it too safe. While she does include some confessional lyrics, much of the album consists of embellished facts presented as poetry, which has turned a lot of us off. It lacks the raw, daring edge that the current music market craves. So, it's not just about the quality of the songs themselves. It's about the impact and the statement the artist is making. Charli's album is being recognised, quite rightly in my opinion, for its sheer audacity and the shake-up it's causing in the pop scene, and that's why it has such a high score. Hope this helps to clarify things! I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. 14 2 4 10 1

It's a disruptive move in the pop music landscape could you tell me why is it subversive/disruptive? Not being ironic or shady, i'm honestly wondering it. I like the record. But i do not consider, neither the music, release strategy or political ground, as subversive (against who? against what? where we expecting something different from Charli? doesn't brat sounds like something only Charli could make?). If anything, i find it a transparent Charli xcx record.
