Wether or not it stays in the charts, influences younger generations, impacts contemporary pop culture, inspires other artists etc all depends on the quality of the music. If she was going to make a comeback she should've used the Superbowl as her opportunity to drop an album. I think Rihanna fans overestimate her current commercial potential. It would be arrogant of her to assume she could just appear after (how many years absent?) and get a #1. The music would have to be incredible. Think of how many artists have risen and established themselves in the zeitgeist since Rihanna last released. This is the music business. If by "do well" you mean sell 250k, she would have to work with incredibly current writers and producers who already have their fingers on the pulses of at least two generations. My 18 year old sibling doesn't care about Rihanna. They see her as an old artist who no longer makes music, and often talks about how Sia did Diamonds better "back in the day." Will Rihanna do well if she comes back? If you'd asked me 5 years ago I would have said yes. Now, I'm really not so sure. I think a Rihanna lead single would do well right now. Album numbers not like Taylor Swift but there are a lot of people who are thristy for her to come back. Maybe most of the fans are in their 30's now but with the Superbowl I'm pretty sure she gained a lot of new listeners. People said this about her break between Unapologetic and Anti and Work still smashed, etc. Right after the Superbowl I noticed songs like Diamonds, We Found Love, Rude Boy were being played everywhere and little kids wanted these songs at their parties so it was like an event where all of these songs gained some momentum. I love her, but I'm afraid she simply can't compete in the MPG leagues anymore. Her last hit was when? Her last album was when? If she was seriously going to make a comeback to music, it would have to be huge. And I just don't think she has the passion for it. Girl, she’s still got 84m listeners on Spotify despite her last release being 8 years ago In my messy era.
JesseX77X 66
Honestly at this point I’m over her and her playing games with her fans I think it’s kinda rude
Monstermilo 3,718
Rihanna has one of the most immaculate discographies in pop music. Anyone who says she can’t compete in todays world is delulu
HermesGr 1,136
I use to love her. Mainly for her aesthetics basically n some bops (visualised always) But lets face it. Shes not an artist. Shes always was a success and money hunter n this is so unfair for so many guys n girls that are true artists and keep trying for their moment. But thats show business i guess... For sure, artists are not like this. Edited June 8 by HermesGr
Roughhouse Dandy 8,411
Not y'all trying to invalidate her artistry when she was one of the only women in the industry giving us concepts, high fashion, and interesting non-cookie cutter music for YEARS. Time blinds many people. This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss. 2

I'm not saying her music would shake the world. Now, I know this seems shady. I promise you - I think you're a lovely member, and I'm not quoting you like this to throw shade. It's simply to emphasize my actual point: Rihanna's talent is undeniable. But my point isn't about her music and its impact. It's about the music business and how its mechanics contributes to her impact. Sounds convoluted, I know. But stay with me. Pop stans across the globe, incited further by corporate labels, have been pitting female stars against one another since their very exception. Recently, we've all witnessed Taylor V Billie, or should I say, Republic Records V Interscope. "Following the release of Rihanna's seventh studio album, Unapologetic, and its accompanying tour, Rihanna took a step back from music.[4] "I wanted to have a year to just do whatever I want artistically, creatively," the singer said. She then went on to state that this hiatus lasted only a week before she ultimately returned to the studio. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work_(Rihanna_song)#Background_and_release This hiatus has lasted almost a decade, in terms of releasing anything new. Has she been in the studio? I think so. She's teasing like hell right now. She's a billionaire now. She has her own label. Her own time, money schedule, (FREEDOM) essentially. Is this enough? Take a look at how she's trending. Spoiler In the past 12 months: In the past 7 days: In the past 4 hours: I'm passionate about Rih's music just as much as the next stan. So what's the problem? I don't think she's as passionate as I am. You say she's about to reset culture itself? I personally believe that only a handful of artists in history have ever possessed the long-term ability to reset contemporary pop culture. Can Rihanna dip for nearly a decade, then make a comeback, and do that? TLDR: Spoiler I think contrition might be in order right now, Miss Fenty. Not hubris. Edited June 8 by Westerosi I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. Monstermilo 3,718
some of the greatest artists in history DID NOT write their songs MJ, whitney, celine dion - they helped write some but had others writing a majority of their lyrics doesnt invalidate rihannas contribution to pop music if she really tried she could release another album and **** on your fckn faves. even though she hasnt release a new album since 2016, shes still one of the most streamed females in music
