honestly i don't blame her

why would i go through all the effort of making/promoting/selling an album and touring when i could make a comfortable living just selling make up?

That AND she still gets more streams than artists who put out regularly. :messga:

I'd be chilling for the rest of my life.

I feel like she won’t get really retired, I just think it’s gonna take years/decades for her to make another album

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I agree that the longer she waits, the worse the impact will be but she just did the Superbowl last year so the demand is definitely there. It might not be with younger GenZ and GenAlpha, but it's there.

I actually believe the longer she waits the more impact her return will make, if she ever returns that is.

She came to Hollywood as a teen, from a tiny island which 95% of Americans couldn't show on a map, hustled so hard for a decade, took some time off to deliver the defining album of 2010s, went into business and became a billionaire. To me, she is the American dream and I'm so happy for her. Sure the bops will be missed and no one can deliver hits like her but if she wants to retire, she has every right to do so. :queenga:

I wish she would come out clean about it and stop torturing her poor stans though :selena:

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

A chart without figures is no chart at all. What's the difference in numbers between them? Why is verifiable song specific stream data presenting a different result?

kworb is often missing songs. there is no 'I Can Fly' or 'Big Eyes'

LOL ok but their main difference is that Gaga actually enjoys being an artist in multiple ways :air: so she'll always be actively making music or movies or putting on shows

meanwhile rihanna is preferring just making money

mother, what must i do?

why only 1? Gaga has always been consistently making art... i think there's only like 2 years in her career where she hasn't put out/been part of some sort of project

it's just not solely dance pop music

mother, what must i do?

But the observant pessimist within me believes LG is slowly moving in Rihanna's direction, mindset-wise. That would be her prerogative, but I don't want HER to vanish altogether one day too.

No she's not retiring, she's trying to be tongue-in-cheek but it's corny as hell in my opinion.

"Look I'm self-aware and quirky, isn't it funny?"

Well it doesn't change the reality of her situation, and I don't think her fans (if there are any left) should find that funny either. :deadbanana:

Time. It will not wait, no matter how hard you hold on...

I mean that's fair enough.
Although I wonder if the daily listening chart is influenced on spotify by whether or not they count features (Rihanna has a lot of big hits where she's the feat unlike Lana who is 99% solo work).

That said, I stand by the fact Rihanna's numbers are insane for an artist who's not put out a major release since 2016 and if she dropped tomorrow people would go wild

What do you mean by 'do well'?

Having a large fan base will obviously make your music chart. Wether or not it stays in the charts, influences younger generations, impacts contemporary pop culture, inspires other artists etc all depends on the quality of the music.

If she was going to make a comeback she should've used the Superbowl as her opportunity to drop an album.

I think Rihanna fans overestimate her current commercial potential. It would be arrogant of her to assume she could just appear after (how many years absent?) and get a #1.

The music would have to be incredible. Think of how many artists have risen and established themselves in the zeitgeist since Rihanna last released.

This is the music business. If by "do well" you mean sell 250k, she would have to work with incredibly current writers and producers who already have their fingers on the pulses of at least two generations.

My 18 year old sibling doesn't care about Rihanna. They see her as an old artist who no longer makes music, and often talks about how Sia did Diamonds better "back in the day."

Will Rihanna do well if she comes back? If you'd asked me 5 years ago I would have said yes. Now, I'm really not so sure.

The hype is lower than a few years ago but still very high for a new Rihanna album. I'm pretty sure she would be the only one to compete with Taylor if she releases somethings.
