Meanwhile, I see Gaga doing it differently because she doesn't have anything to come back from since her last #1 was in her last era so that narrative is not going to drive Gaga's next era. Gaga might be someone like Beyoncé who either goes for her 2013 self-titled moment or just like Kylie Minogue has a big hit for the GP 12+ years after breaking through or just continues to have success because of her loyal gay following somewhat similar to Beyoncé. Lara Croft 1,983
I never like pitting them against each other, but it’s such a shame that Katy could receive one before Gaga. She’s had some outstanding music videos with insane production quality. I always wonder why she’s never received the award. Breaks my heart when her art isn’t given the recognition it deserves.
monstertoronto 8,748
I think Katy def deserves the Vanguard award. Her videos weee consistently creative and distinct from each other. But I always used to think she was following in Gagas footsteps. I’m still confused why Gaga never received this. I feel like someone speculated that she was offered it and turned it down so they gave her the Tricon award instead? Which was never seen again. 😭
lastpopicon 3,633
I feel like the tricon award will be reserved for the larger than the world icons like Gaga. Fashion icon, music icon and Hollywood A Lister. Probably an award reserved for a very few, or just for Gaga herself. I think we might not see it again because there's just nobody at her level. The melody that you choose can rescue you

Gaga got the Tricon Award at the VMAs in 2020 so I don’t know if it’s like that type of special award or she can still get it later? . Besides, that award has lost it’s value the moment they gave it to Nicki Minaj. Edited June 6 by Anderson123 3

I mean yes it’s still great recognition but it feels made up for her. It would be nice for her to receive the award that people recognize and that has a history of other legendary artists getting it. hieronymus 9,669
I feel like the VMAs aren't really that prestigious or influential anymore. They used to have so many incredible, era-defining pop culture moments and those are very scarce coming from the VMAs, much less MTV, anymore. A big part of that is probably the profound lack of truly original programming. It all feels very passé... kinda like most other award shows. I really wish it wasn't this way.
