Im not surprised Katy would post this tbh. Theres very little controvery left. Even many Israel supporters agree this attack went too far.

 

Its a perfectly safe tweet to post. Looks good on her image and doesnt really result in much backlash

 

One pet peve of mine is when celebs speak out on "controversial" subjects that reach a point they arent controversial anymore and claim they are speaking out despite the "backlash and criticism" even tho in reality its very minimal.

 

Its a very calculated thing to appear bold and righteous but in reality they wait until enough people agree with the message so that they appear good for saying the message but in reality not taking much heat. And it feels thats what Katy did here. Now that most people agree Israel went too far suddendly shes bold enough to post about it

The posts in here calling for Gaga's continued silence are beyond embarrassing. Of course she's not obligated to say a damn thing, but this is a woman who has made a career off positioning herself as a voice for marginalized and disenfranchised communities. She calls herself a philanthropist, and you all are shocked people are looking to her to be a powerful voice in this? Anyone who isn't expecting her to say anything has not been paying attention. However, I'm sure she's going to use that voice to urge us all to vote come November and glaze over the fact that she's been silent while more and more of her peers continue to join the loud majority of those asking for this to finally end.

Celebrities are not politicians. They are entertainers and musicians and their job is making music for all people to enjoy together regardless. They can provide inspiration and be the centre of fandom communities, but it isn’t their job to speak out on behalf of their “constituency”. It absolutely unfair to put expectations on people you don’t really know, to wade into extremely divisive world events and political issues just because they’re famous.  If any celebrity chooses to say something that’s their choice, but there should not be any demand for anyone to speak up at the risk of being labelled a disappointment, or cancelled. Those are your personal expectations and that is your agenda that you are imposing on another person, who you don’t even really know.

Gaga has made herself known as the political activist of the pop girls. She prides herself on being more than an entertainer and a musician and always has.

It's not the LMs' fault they expect her to say something when the president she fought tooth and nail to get elected is dragging her own country into complicity in a genocide. And, as far as I've seen, most fans excuse her silence anyway because they are so fond of coddling her into mediocrity in general, I guess.

You do need to take a side against genocide and ethnic cleansing and colonialism actually. You can be a centrist about what color of skirts you like on a person but being 'neutral' about this is coward and despicable. Either you're with the colonized people who are getting brutally erased from existence or you're on the murderer's side, it's really not that complicated. 

I know Gaga won't change much, but a word on her spcials would help to some extent, even if it's simply for donations like other celebs have done. As I said before, I'm not counting on celebs to be saviors because that's childish anyway and there are much more important things to be thinking about but this would be a plus for sure.

“Lol” is not an effective opening conducive to an actual discussion. People are very emotional and invested iin all sides of this ongoing very complicated issue.  I have both passionate Jewish friends and vociferous Palestine supporter friends, and it is a very nuanced and difficult topic that isn’t as black and white as the herd mentality on a pop culture fan forum wants it to be.
