Katy also immediately spoke in support of Israel following the massacre committed by Hamas, so it’s different.

If Gaga, or anyone, just now decides to speak about the conflict without ever having addressed what Hamas did, it would come off as if they don’t value Israeli lives.

I think this is the most sensible take tbh

Social media is rabid on this topic, what may please us inflames someone else and always ends in a death threat these days

Nothing Gaga could do would help lead to a solution.

What a lot of other people with platforms are doing is promoting charities that directly assist and support families trying to survive and flee the bombardments and violence, helping children who are now orphaned, etc. For instance, Operation Olive Branch. It won’t lead to a solution but certainly helps people.

No longer supporting the Biden administration by actively working for them and lending her image to them, would at least divest her from their stance.

Just a couple examples, if she would like to contribute in some way. No one expects her to magically fix the situation.

Israel's victim card has expired the moment they used it as a reason to erase thousands of innocent people off the earth, destroy their homes, burn their children alive, Israel turned from a victim to a war criminal in a matter of days.

almost 7 months of war, Israel didn't eliminate Hamas, didn't bring all the hostages, Hamas is still shooting rockets to Tel Aviv and the whole south, from areas where they declared as "Hamas free".. and now they even dare not to listen to the international laws and enter Rafah and still abuse 7th October? enough with this.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

OT; I'm kind of shocked that Katy of all people is sharing something since she's a proud centrist democrat. Shame that much more "progressive" celebrities continue to remain silent, even when we've seen how a simple post can increase donations to reputable charities in a matter of minutes.

She was a Republican last I heard :deadbanana:

…it shouldn’t be about *her best interest??? There’s thousands of children being firebombed???

she doesn’t have to be a voice for everything but this is way beyond pale

But we all know that big movie companies make their clients sign certain contracts prohibiting them from speaking about certain topics. For all we know, Gaga could be donating a **** ton of money to Palestine aid behind the scenes. I hope nobody here actually believes that Gaga is pro-genocide. And if you do, then you don’t know Gaga lol

For people wondering why Gaga hasn't spoken out (same with Taylor, Beyoncé, Adele etc..)

She has remained quiet in the aftermath of October 7th. Speaking out now without acknowledging October 7th will seem biased. And if she does acknowledge October 7th, people will still be upset with her "bothsiding" the issue.

So I can see why she's hesitant. Sometimes it's better to say less.

Not sure that's even really necessary when the president himself stops arms from being sent to Israel when US intelligence discovers US bombs were being dropped on innocent civilians.

Or...at least he tried to but was only able to stop one shipment, I believe, before being overridden by congress :rip:

OT: Sweet of her but I still don't know exactly what a pop star's take on this particular issue is worth unless she's actively mobilizing her fans to vote out Republicans and elect progressives...which, she isn't :laughga:

Just to add context to this:

Biden did not undo his decision to pause shipment and it wasn't overridden by Congress either.

He paused (and the pause remains in effect) shipments of 2000lbs bombs which Israel has been using a lot. These bombs are devasting in the sense that they cause a lot of collateral damage.

He has since encouraged Israel to limit itself to GBU-39 bombs (37 pounds) which are 50 times less powerful than the 2000lbs bombs, and this is the smallest type of bombs a plane can carry.

What happened in the latest Rafah strike? Israel used the GBU-39 bombs but things still went completely wrong, since it ignited secondary explosions on the ground (competing theories whether it could be because of Hamas weapon stash, or fuel tanks).

It goes to show how difficult things are. And in war even when you try your best (by stopping shipments of the deadlier bombs), things can still go terribly wrong using the smallest type of bombs possible.

That's why the focus right now should be on ending the war altogether. This is the reality people need to understand and accept. There is no "right" and "humane" way to fight this war. And this is proof of that. So it must end. And it can only end with a pragmatic plan.

Biden should (and probably already does) engage in quiet diplomacy to get Arab nations help to get Hamas to leave Gaza and have Gaza rebuilt by PA or Arab coalition governments.

Could easily be a PR move.

Slightly hot take: I honestly think Lady Gaga's silence on this may be related to 2012 and Jakarta.
