Natalia Kills 413
There's a tiny bit of logic in this. I think it would be good for young people as a whole to be more engaged in society with volunteering, plus get them mixing with others (including different generations if they volunteer rather than serve) and make them appreciate defense more. Realistically, the UK and most of the West need to invest more in defense to deter conflict, particularly on the cyberfront where hacks can bring our society down quickly. But, the reality is that no one wants to willingly do that, especially if there's minimal reward. If anything, it'd just slow people down from living their lives. There should be a carrot rather than a stick approach (e.g. do national service and get free tuition for university, extra house funding/rent relief, long-term cash payments etc). Karl 3,575
Great way to appeal to their core elderly demographic who thinks that we eat too much avocado and if we didn't spend £5 on a coffee we could afford a house like they could

I agree with this part strongly There was a report a week or two ago that US drinking water sources have been under attack by Iranian, Russian, and Chinese allied groups The world needs fewer soldiers but that's not only because war is incredibly stupid. War is evolving. They won't drop bombs in 50 years, they'll just hack a nation's power grid...actually, they do that now That said, idk if the ultimatum of military service or community service is an effective one Whimsical bitch
