Lana Del Rey says her Bond theme was turned down

Agreed! Tbh I didn’t really vibe with her songwriting too much early on. It was fine but largely felt derivative of stuff like Nancy Sinatra which I’d been familiar with for so long I imagine it was like Madonna fans hearing and seeing early Gaga and being like eh I remember the og (no shade to Gaga; I been a day 1) lmaoooo but I think Lana’s evolved SO much in the last 7ish years especially.

Damn, the fact it sounded like the most obvious Bond theme ever was no coincidence. To be fair, it sounds a bit more like a Bond film from the 60's as opposed to a current theme. All the themes have a classic feel to them, of course, but some sound older than others and maybe 24 sounded a bit too old? To know it was seriously considered is a nice validation that the higher-ups think she's good even if they don't show it all the way. It bugs me that for the last few movies, the bigwigs want to pick literally the most popular artist at the time to represent the franchise (Adele in 2012, Sam in 2015, Billie in 2021). Not all those artists might actually suit a theme and that was one of the biggest critiques of Sam's track and to an extent, Billie's as well. When you've got an artist like Lana, who looks like a legit Bond girl with a classic jazz singer's voice who loves a Bond aesthetic, you can't turn her down. The last 2 themes are the only ones that managed to go #1 yet so many of those older themes that didn't do well are now classics (Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die) so it's high time they took a risk. To see Lana get nominated for a Grammy would be epic.

I think she would able to pull it off in the future. It also makes me wonder if we would ever get a Gaga bond song?
