As a cis gay man, I continue to be somewhat confused and disappointed as to why LGBT rights around the world have somehow left behind the T

“LGB…” This is not how my parents, the movement, Gaga or the internet has raised me

What the **** happened bc this Peru **** makes me sad and needs to stop.

I know Peru is just a homophobic country in general where there’s not even gay marriage there, but ick… stop the targeted attack on trans people

Bonkers

I think being trans/NB is exactly like being left handed.  Or anyone in the LGBTQIA.

Left handed people are minority.  They can PRETEND to be right handed.  But that doesn't change that's how they are, and nothing they do can change it.  Even if being left handed was mental illness (it isn't)...you still can't change it.

And most importantly, you cant 'groom' right handed people into being left handed.  No matter how much a right hand person is told that lefties exist, it doesn't change who they are either.

i mean, there is something wrong in the brain if you feel disconnected between your mind and your body

not sure if it should be called an illness, disorder or something else and i'm not really sure what the difference is in english between the two

but being trans is not a fun thing

if you don't have the ability to change your body in a way that will satisfy you, it can bring you a lot of stress and even lead to depression right?

i do understand tho, that being classified as mentally ill can make the community an easier target to transphobia and that's not good

"Mentally ill" is the wrong descriptor for queer related body dysmorphia, honestly. It brings an inherent negative connotation and implies queerness can be cured, treated, or managed like any other illness.

And let's not pretend the most stressful part of being trans isn't an external problem with ignorant and hateful people and the systems they create for us all to exist in :rip:

I don't even understand why intersex people would be included in this? Doesn't even make sense...

as i said, i understand that being classified as mentally ill makes the community an easier target and it is bad

and the laws that are being passed are obviously not in a good faith

but as far as the "it brings negative connotations" goes... yeah it does but does that mean we should stay away from it, or maybe we should work on normalizing mental illness to the point that such terms are neutral and are used to actually help people, not harm them :/

also, not every illness is curable and being trans is already treated right? with gender affirming care

and i don't know if i agree with you on the last part - being hated is terrible, but living everyday with a body that doesn't feel like what it should be sounds like a worse thing, at least to me

sometimes i think i might be non binary, but who knows really - that's a bit too personal for a public forum xd

Imo the easiest way to reconcile this is that gender dysphoria is a mental illness, but being trans/non-binary is not.

We have forgotten our public MANNERS

Dennis

This is insane and scary. People should remember that reverse-progress is possible.

This can happen in America too.

holy scheisse

If being trans is classified as mental illness, I guess that means that they’ll have to get behind HRT and gender affirming care so that we can end mental illness :bon:
