This series has the typical Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) masala, but I don't think he tried to create a masterpiece. Moin Beg provided him with a basic story, and as usual, he stretched it out, similar to Padmaavat and Saawariya. I watched it as a Masala-Desi creation, and as a long-time SLB fan, I got what I wanted. and the thing it this show was majorly extravagant, the expensive sets, the outfits, the jewelry but in a way it mirrored what the tawaif culture used to be - extravagant on the outside while sad on the inside Where's the spunk, Adam? It almost translates to 'my dear friend (woman) who has been struck by evil eyes' but there were reports of 'guiyah' being a close female friend which at some point also alluded to a female lover Where's the spunk, Adam?
