InTheCloset 17,754
Heeramandi is a new release on Netflix. Directed and produced by the celebrated Indian film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The story depicts the scenes of courtesans called tawaifs who 'ruled' and were 'queens' of Lahore (now a city in Pakistan) in the subcontinent when the British had taken over it. It shows how rich and powerful they were and how they had access to everyone. It also shows one majorly overlooked fact, their role in the freedom of India and Pakistan from the British rule. It is a beautiful show, gut wrenching and glamorous. My favorite characters were all the tawaifs. I just didnt like Sharmin Segal's acting, she had the same expression throughout the show but she is Bhansali's niece so nepotism i guess. Also one of the leads Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer back in 2012 but se underwent treatment and this is her comeback. The visuals, the glamor, the songs everything is a 10/10. You should give it a watch Spoiler The final scene gave me goosebumps and it felt so powerful when Bibbojaan shouted 'Inqilab' (revolution) and all the tawaifs gathered outside shouted 'Zindabad' (long live) and i cried. VOLANTIS 16,294
I've been obsessed about this show since release. Everyone's performance is so top tier except for the horrible performance by Segal. Obviously nothing on Manisha, that is mother. Aditi and Sangeeta's performances really surprised me. I'm definitely a Bibbojaan stan. And Sangeeta was very convincing as a defeated woman with spontaneous outbursts. Soundtrack on REPEAT. I'll lift you 3 inches off the ground and drag you to a meter and a half

CyanDante 5,848
I absolutely hated it. and I couldn't stand Alam zeb or Tajdar's character. SLB has lost his touch. Now its just extravagant sets and outfits with barely any story or substance. I'm not very good with Social Mediaᵀᴹ 1

Tajdar was hot so he gets a pass SLB has lost his touch but i think its also because of choreographers changing. like in devdas Madhuri did an absolute banger job and her choreography by Saroj Khan also played a major role. But i also feel like extravagance is important because it draws people in Where's the spunk, Adam?

This series has the typical Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) masala, but I don't think he tried to create a masterpiece. Moin Beg provided him with a basic story, and as usual, he stretched it out, similar to Padmaavat and Saawariya. We should also acknowledge that he is a clever director; his main focus was on building giant sets and canvases, and the story was never a priority. I watched it as a Masala-Desi creation, and as a long-time SLB fan, I got what I wanted. Stream Kylie-Janet Discographies!
