The reason they are pulling it is because they had a loss of sales during pride month in conservative areas (which make up a large portion of their region penetration) last year - there are reports of how much was lost that month due to boycotts. It has nothing to do with "ensuring the safety" of the employees. This is to ensure they do not have any loss of sales, since those areas will not be served with LGBT themed merchandise. It doesn’t benefit them to put those items in rural areas so they aren’t this year. The pendulum is swinging more in favor of less confrontation and conservatism on top of doing what’s right for their sales. When socially it swings more in favor of LGBT again they will put those items back out for sale in larger quantities. Capitalism and religious zealots are what’s wrong with this country.
