Hamas accepts ceasefire, Israel unsure

Hamas announced its acceptance Monday of an Egyptian-Qatari cease-fire proposal, but Israel said the deal did not meet its “core demands” and that it was pushing ahead with an assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Still, Israel said it would continue negotiations.

Hamas’s abrupt acceptance of the cease-fire deal came hours after Israel ordered an evacuation of some 100,000 Palestinians from eastern neighborhoods of Rafah, signaling an invasion was imminent.

The Israeli military said it was conducting “targeted strikes” against Hamas in eastern Rafah. Soon after, Israeli tanks entered Rafah, reaching as close as 200 meters (yards) from Rafah’s crossing with neighboring Egypt, a Palestinian security official and an Egyptian official said. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media. The reported incursion came a day after Hamas militants killed four Israeli soldiers in a mortar attack that Israel said originated near the Rafah crossing.

Israeli airstrikes also hit elsewhere in Rafah late Monday, killing at least five people, including a child and a woman, hospital officials said.

The Israeli military declined to comment.

An American official said the U.S. was examining whether what Hamas agreed to was the version signed off on by Israel and international negotiators or something else.

Egyptian officials said that proposal called for a cease-fire of multiple stages starting with a limited hostage release and partial Israeli troop pullbacks within Gaza. The two sides would also negotiate a “permanent calm” that would lead to a full hostage release and greater Israeli withdrawal out of the territory, they said.

The camp they're trying to herd these people into sounds atrocious. Already nearly half a million Gazans are staying there with little to no sanitation, barely any food or water, it's literally one step removed from being a concentration camp.

Israelis are getting restless and angry at Netanyahu but it's only manifested in small protests. They need to drag him out of office by his ankles and put a human in charge.

Glad a mod started this thread, so that it doesn’t get locked immediately by some Zionist sympathizer. Also, it’s clear the true goal of the Israeli gov/Netanyahu/IDF has been the complete and total annihilation of the Palestinian people (be it hamas or mostly innocent civilians) aka genocide. This was just one big opportunity for them to finally fully overtake the entire land and turn it into a 100% Israeli state. Off course thanks to the US’s support in billions and military weapons aid, nothing could actually stop them. Meanwhile the people of America are struggling to survive financially, are over taxed and likely do not have access to proper healthcare.

I hope you guys realize this is a fake ceasefire proposal that Hamas wrote themselves. Don’t fall for it.

More than 100 hostages wouldn’t be released. Not to mention, Hamas would continue to rule Gaza.

this ceasefire is bullshit, apart from messing up with Netanyahu, it's not achieving anything groundbreaking, you would think that this war would end up with a big change, but it will end up with the same situation before the war.

Honestly, this is going to be the real test of the int. community & Netanyahu. Not sure how he can afford to refuse a deal that would release all hostages when the public is already turning on him. 
And the int. community has repeatedly made Rafah a red line, they need to enforce that line.

are you still in israel? how are you doing especially with the illegality of supporting palestine?

yeah no ceasefire that israel will accept is gonna benefit palestinians or the hostages at all. a lot of the important bodies in israel are really dangerous and murderous.
