PopMusicForever 503
Radical Optimism is not instant like Future Nostalgia. It’s good but I expected it be very dancey and few more instrumental punches, like Houdini.
dberrin 861
By the way, she was right. Except the singles, nothing really sounds like FN. Its not that much disco pop.

It's very diluted, it's more like vintage sounds than proper overly chorused guitars. it depends on how she presented it. But i don't feel scammed. I agree. She probably référence it through the fact she’s working with Tame Impala. I don’t feel scammed either
LoanSPW 186
After listening to the album three times, my favorite track besides the singles is definitely Falling Forever. Great production and vocals, and it sounds different from the sound of her last album while still being danceable. Whatcha Doing is catchy, and Maria was the best out of the experimental tracks with its mix of guitars, electronic sounds and flute. The others are fine but there are elements that I'm not super keen on yet. Happy for You sounds great but the lyrics are bland. Anything For Love sounds like two songs in one and the "background chat" is unnecessary to me. End of an Era, These Walls and French Exit are not really going anywhere. They're not bad but I don't have any urge to replay them. It's indeed a chill summery pop album. The singles aren't really a good representation of the overall sound, but since they are the best tracks I can't really blame Warner/Dua's team. Props to Dua for sticking to her vision and releasing an album that's a bit less in-your-face, more experimental. I never really expected this album to reach the highs of Future Nostalgia anyway. Matt 419
After not really loving the last two singles I was feeling that this album would not be it for me, and that is particularly true. I love Watcha Doing, Falling Forever & Maria. But no songs are as strong as Houdini. The instrumentals feel a bit “hollow” on the rest of the tracks, they are all lackluster compared to Houdini. For me Houdini is by far the best song Dua has released.
Rat Q 539
She said in an interview a while ago that she wanted like invoke the essence of Britpop and listed examples like Massive Attack and Oases I am very curious to listen to tho album once I have the attention span and lucidity to do so haha "Hesperus is Phosphorus"
LG666 1,756
It's not a great album, it's okay. But it sounds like a record she needed to make for her own growth so, looking forward to DL4.
River 104,910
Listened to it, it’s kinda weird that the first song is the weakest and a skip, so you better just start with Houdini because this is the moment things takes off. It’s an interesting album, but a safe one, it’s like she wanted to do something exceptional but the moment she reach the climax of the boldness, she took 10 steps. I do think that if she had 100% freedom to work only with Kevin Parker, the album would have been totally different and really fitting her vision. I could play the moderator, I can ban you, die sis. That's mainly why I kinda hope this album will tank and have less pressure from label on next record. Next album could be the next step ahead creatively Radical Optimism shows some evolution though
