The US is weird, though I don’t think this is centrism. If anything it’s the opposite at play here.

Most of the protestors and the weird flag defenders realistically have nothing better to do and are duped by social media into thinking that they’re being martyrs. I don’t blame them specifically, they’re just young and a bit naive. They have a right to do it though.

There’s a reason why states like Russia and China are heavily influencing western social media that’s both pro-Palestine and zionist. It’s been a great way to deepen dissent in western countries.
