Nah I wouldn’t call it a trick. For any other artist multiple versions will not get you to possibly 2M by the end of a tracking week. She was already pulling these numbers before as well, the multiple versions is just a booster and not the end all be all of her commercial success. Otherwise any A-list celeb will release multiple version and attempt to sell 1M+ in a week. Even without them she would at least sell 1M in a week, give or take. You need to realize that it’s her and not the product, people are buying into her, not the album. Her fans have stayed since day 1, that’s so rare for an artist. I’m just surprised that by now people don’t get it.

But it is business trickery, sis. She & her team released multiple versions of it because it would make her core fan base buy multiple copies, potentially doubling, even tripling sales of her product - that’s a huge number of people putting their hand in their pocket twice, thrice etc. She & her team dropped a second album 12 hours after because it meant that she’d essentially double her sales, streams for the albums first week sales. The promotion has been very strategic.. certain radio stations only played her album for 24 hours straight, she collaborated with Tik Tok for her new album etc. It’s not just her - it’s her plus a business/marketing team that has succeeded in making her the biggest pop star on earth. Her team see an opportunity, & they use it to achieve even more growth. IMO, they just do it in a seamless way that almost makes the trickery of it all invisible, but when you really think about it, it’s quite obvious.

Im not saying it to discredit her success or anything - music is primarily a business in todays world, & second an art form. Kudos to her & her team for pulling it all off.

Yes but this is called business strategy not trickery and should be encouraged not shamed. No one is being robbed or tricked or mislead into buying something. My point stands that this strategy is easily available to many artists and many may attempt it but will be nowhere near Taylor’s commercial success. You have to realize that even with one edition she will still be the best selling artist today. That’s what I’m getting at. Yea sure multiple versions may push her above 1M but she can easily move 700K+ in a week, that in itself is phenomenal.
