Thanks for the kind words! I think it's beyond just that, for me. It's not like I dislike Taylor's music – I've listened to every single song, including the ones from Debut. I know her catalog inside and out. I've seen her live 2 times, including City of Lover, soon to be three. I think there should be the space for genuine concerns and criticisms that it doesn't seem like she's really growing, maturing or evolving as an artist since the themes and styles of her music just haven't seem to have evolved that much in recent years. I don't think that's as simplistic as saying "good" or "bad", I think it fits more broadly into the world that's been created around her where she gets praised for everything and receives awards for any album just out of popularity, even if that album might not objectively be the best music of the year. It's a broader contextual thing. Sometimes the songs she wrote as a teenager feel more mature than the ones she is writing now, as a 30-something tbh. Idk if any of this makes sense

Yes I understand all of that! Definitely well explained. And I honestly agree a bit about the need to push the boundaries. I’m obviously a fan of this sound, so I’m not mad about it. But for the sake of seeing what else she can do, it probably would be beneficial for her to get out of her comfort zone more. Because you’re right, there’s chance for artistic growth outside of the boundaries she’s in. Again, I don’t dislike the space she’s in because I vibe with it, but I feel like as a fellow artist it would be nice to see her shake it up for the sake of see what else she’s capable of.
Also, I hadn’t thought about the constant praise possibly solidifying her comfort zones. That’s an excellent point! I honestly am not a swiftie who buys into her god complex, I just genuinely enjoy all of her output. She isn’t the end-all-be-all artist, and honestly no one should put that expectation on anyone—especially on someone like Taylor who seems to have a thing for “perfectionism” mindsets.

(I’m gonna ramble slightly further. I honestly think a lot of the current swiftie movement is fueled with escapism. I think that’s where the almost cultish level of praise vibe arises from. World being so stressful right now, I have a feeling people are escaping reality by participating in the current craze. I feel like a lot of the extremisms are going to die down and people will eventually migrate to the next thing. So, hopefully at that point the more “intense” swifties will begin to approach her in a less frenzied manner, because it does get extreme.)

I really liked this reply. Very eloquently put, and very thoughtful. I think that's maybe what annoys me most, to be honest. Not necessarily that she's not evolving, but the juxtaposition of that with her being praised as some kind of musical genius who reinvented musicology by dropping songs that sound like the long lost cousins of songs she's been recording for years now. It's just all the hype surrounding it which is very frustrating. She went from girl next door to god complex in the blink of an eye, it seems (great choice of words) and it's been exemplified a few times already, like her whining about not being nominated for AOTY after already winning it twice (and she's won it twice more since, most acts never achieve that once, let alone twice), her snatching the award from Celine Dion without even looking at her, her whining to Spotify and Apple Music about royalties ... (Seriously, what other artist has ever pulled something like that...?) It's always about money, it's always about fame, it's always about success, it's always about awards... She just strikes me as extremely narcissistic currently, all her songs in this record seem to be about how she's been wronged somehow, or how she's a victim of other's criticisms. Like I said earlier, I just can't take this underdog narrative seriously. Taylor hasn't been an underdog since 1989, at least, if not sooner. Even during reputation when her career was "dead" she was pulling in sales mosts artists could ever dream of. She has the biggest, most rabid fanbase in the known universe, critical praise pouring over her like gasoline from fear of being ignited by said fanbase, and awards thrown at her by virtue of her privilege and popularity. That whole Kimye drama was so ridiculous when she tried to paint herself like the ultimate victim when she has been more successful and popular than both Kanye and Kim combined during the entirety of their beef.

The fact we're supposed to somehow believe she has these "challenges" to "overcome" and that romance is somehow a challenge for her is just... Idk. She has all the wealth, fame and money in the world, she's been with (at least) 3 men within the last two years alone. I could make a list of all the friends I have who've never been able to find a date, let alone love once, in her life. And the only thing she ever seems to sing about is how some guy wronged her and "could've been the one but isn't"... When the reality is she can date anyone she wants, anytime she wants. Sure it's disappointing when your relationships don't work out, I'm not trying to minimise it. But it does feel like she's a bit self-absorbed and self-obsessed. Having love go wrong sounds like a nice problem to have when you're already dating someone new and allegedly "super in love"... In contrast some people spend their entire life never finding love once.

I also cringed so much on that song where she mentions "racists". It's such a weird word for her to use, particularly because she's so, so terrible at being non-racist, and just feels like a word she threw in there to try and protect herself from being accused of being racist for wanting to live in 1830 or whatever it was... It just all feels so calculated, so self-obsessed, and so shallow. I guess I found this still ok when she was in her 20s but now she's halfway through her 30s and she still sounds like a teenager who doesn't watch the news. Idk. I guess I was just expecting a lot more from her, and again, I wouldn't mind it if she just stayed as she is and people didn't praise her as much as they do, but the fact she is like this and people somehow act like she's some musical Jesus for writing 30 ballads that sound like folklore and midnight rejects just really irritates me. :messga: Sorry for the rant haha.

Her success is nothing but a big political strategy for this year's election. She is literally the perfect tool.

After the election you'll have a surprise.

She said on insta "There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted" I don't think she's interested in being a victim, she's just writing how she felt at the time, after a breakup everyone's gonna feel a bit like a victim, but she also sings about how it was her fault too, there's a lot more humility and self reflection in the music than what you describe if you listen to all the tracks. I also think the reason people do like Taylor is shes able to describe her emotions and feelings at a certain point in her life so well, which I guess can come off self obsessed or poor me sometimes.

Yes she’ll reveal she’s in a throuple with Melanie and Donald! It will be the first time there are TWO First Ladies! She will also reveal that she is the biological daughter of Ivanka Trump.
