People need to absolutely stop praising this type of protest. I knew it was gonna start happening after Aaron Bushnell's case got a lot of praise online. I don't care how righteous your cause is but never praise suicide as a form of protest.

Regardless of whether he was protesting for or against Trump, I feel sad that yet another person with mental health issues was mislead into believing that this is the way to protest.

Appears that he doused himself in gasoline first, so he likely did it on purpose. People occasionally do this as an act of protest.

Sure, if the argument is people shouldn't be killing themselves because they want to protest. But are you saying that people that are going to complete suicide regardless shouldn't turn their deaths into a protest? Especially when protesting the thing that drives one to suicide. I would have preferred Leelah Alcorn still be alive and well, but there's no denying that her suicide was a powerful act of protest, to the point that it even had the President call for the ban of conversion therapy and resulted in such bans in her home state. Ideally, we don't want anyone to complete suicide, but we don't live in that world. Suicides are going to happen, and it's ghoulish to tell those people that they should do it as quietly as possible.

Don't know the specifics in this case, but the deliberate attempt to misrepresent Aaron Bushnell's act of protest as "mental illness" by people who have been openly defending genocidal violence for half a year is one of the most despicable things I've ever seen in my life.

Aaron set himself on fire and recorded himself doing it, knowing full-well what would happen, as an unimaginable act of solidarity with the people of Palestine and protest against the institutions and collaborators that let this happen, including the types that would later dismiss him as mentally ill. He wrote a will before doing it and stipulated that his life savings go to a Palestinian children's relief fund. He wasn't mentally ill. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Politicians and the media ignore protests, lie about activists, and deliberately mislead the public constantly because they're all rich and have a vested interest in doing so. People feel so desperate and disgusted that they're turning to the most extreme acts of protest imaginable to try to force the conversation to change. 

Martyrdom is unfathomable to the kinds of people who try to dismiss him as mentally ill because they can't imagine living or dying for something greater than themselves. It doesn't make it right or something to encourage, but it is, unequivocally, a profound and deliberate personal sacrifice on for the sake of other people. To dismiss it as anything else is unforgivable.
