I was watching Grace's breakdown of the trailer and she has some pretty interesting insights that I had never thought about before. She says that she thinks Harley could be the manipulative/abusive one in the relationship and not Joker, which I think could be fascinating.

If you pay attention to what Harley says and does, it all seems very manipulative and calculated (i.e., "I'm nobody. I've never done anything with my life like you have," "Let's get out of here," etc.). And for the people who are concerned that she might not be a doctor in this story, Grace says that there might be a nod to that in the fact that she's [Harley's] psychologically manipulating Joker. She might not be a full-on doctor, but using Joker's psychology against him would be a great way to do something different with Harley while still touching on her roots in the comics.

EDIT - Forgot to mention that she also said that if you look closely, Harley is never actually incarcerated in the trailer. She's in Arkham, but she's never actually shown to be a prisoner. That could be another tell that she's actually just using her position in Arkham to manipulate Joker.

Yasss I came here to suggest this too. She might still be a doctor with a strange method of posing as a prisoner to get close to the inmates (???) I don’t know if that sounds too crazy or not. We’ll see. Gaga’s back 🤠

Idk! I just feel like I’ve seen her emote all these ways before so maybe I feel like I’m seeing too much of the “process” so it feels a little stilted? I also just don’t really recognize Harley here so that’s probably another component. Like I genuinely don’t really see any of her personality from this trailer so maybe that’s part of it, too. Idk, I hope I’ll be more swayed, though! Bc I’ve been a big comic reader since I was really young so this should be right up my alley

Todd Phillips created his own Joker in the first movie. He probably created his own Harley too. Arthur Fleck doesn’t even exist outside of Phillip’s universe. Throw away any preconceived notions you have on who Harley Quinn is. They probably don’t matter in this film.
