Lucas 31,545
What's scary about Trump being reelected is that this time he won't have to worry about being elected a 2nd time. He already was impeached, he already went to court for his actions as a president and all that without real consequences. He will have absolutely no limits this time... Supersonic 49,376
As an outsider from a foreign country... it's very obvious that Trump will win. The democrats LOVE running on progressive platforms, but either turn centrist or super conservative while in office. The dems continuously turn a blind eye towards the actual social problems, that are the root of the upset in the country. Then they try to whitewash themselves by cherrypicking some social causes to run a platform on, that are good for media PR. And when it comes down to it, they're gonna abstain or vote against policies they have run their entire platform on, because just like Republicans they're corporate shills with no backbone. They're just bigger hypocrites because of the holier-than-thou attitude. And that's the biggest problem of the democrats: You can't motivate people to vote for you, when they KNOW all you're gonna do is sweettalk and then do nothing. They haven't undone the damage of the Trump administration, they've just pushed the "pause" button and the material conditions have been just as bad if not even worse under the previous administration. And even if a "pause" on destruction is better than destruction, that's not how to build a political base. You can't run a political party on a platform that solely stands for "we're not the other ones, we hesistate more and do less!". You need actual GOALS you can achieve, which the Democratic party currently has none. Like... there's a reason why Biden's approval rating were way much higher in the first third of his term: His vaccination campaign (that also ultimately fell through and failed) had actual data that showed continuous progress, the change of policy was made visible via the publication of data, it gave people a feeling of "the cogs are finally turning, there's something actually working now". With the Biden administration failing so spectacularly in the USA, the current view of Obama's terms has grown a lot less favorable as well and his war crimes and unjustified meddling in the middle east have also gotten more into focus, it's very obvious that Michelle wouldn't be able to hold a candle against Trump as well. Girl the biggest criticism against Biden right now, from average Americans, relates to inflation and immigration. https://news.gallup.com/poll/611135/immigration-surges-top-important-problem-list.aspx I don't think Biden governed as a conservative when it comes to Immigration. If anything, the criticism against him is that he didn't secure the border and allowed 8M people to come in. For people to say "he didn't govern left enough" Also, inflation is a big issue, and sadly he's being blamed for it, even though he has no responsibility for it. Also, inflation is a big issue, and sadly he's being blamed for it, even though he has no responsibility for it. Matter of fact is though, that he DE FACTO reigned as a conservative on immigration and very little of the Trump policies surrounding immigration have changed for the better. Biden managed to reunite 36 families that were ripped apart by Trump policies at the border. Scientists estimate that Trumps policy changes affected approx. 120.000 kids from asylum seeking families at the border. The eight million that supposedly came in, still would have come in if Trump was president. Especially in light of how he managed to f*ck over the lives of 120.000 kids during his presidency alone. Or the fact that restrictive immigration laws just basically shift the numbers into the shadows because of human smuggling. This is literally just conservative news cycle dramatics getting LEGS and influencing actual policy making and opinion making. (Ähnlich wie bei uns in Deutschland ) I understand, but that's not the sentiment explaining why he's been going down in the polls since early 2023. If we follow the data, the main issue is immigration, and the bulk of it is coming from centrists/moderates who think he's been too lenient on the issue of immigration. The share of americans thinking that immigration is a "critical threat" to the country rose to 55%. The share of americans thinking it's not an important threat, fell from 28% to 14%. So this is the dynamic that's hurting Biden the most, not the fact that he didn't govern left enough.

So this is the dynamic that's hurting Biden the most, not the fact that he didn't govern left enough. Self-identified "Centrists" and "moderates" are not people that traditionally vote Democrat, these people traditionally vote Republican and still would vote Republican, even if Biden would be Trump 2.0 in terms of immigration. They'd find another scapegoat issue to radicalize themselves about it. And that's ultimately what I'm trying to express: Immigration is a scapegoat issue. All the frustration felt by "regular" Americans, all the threat felt by Americans surrounding by immigration is displaced anger about poverty, social injustice, political impotence, wealth inequality. Like... in a country where a significant amount of people prefers to commit suicide, in order to financially unburden your family living members, immigration is THE topic that drives policy? That's a set up, a really obvious one at that and the American media cycle is definitely complicit in furthering these narratives. What I'm trying to get at is: The Biden adminstration is really f*cking stupid for doing the MOST to alienate the people, who have recognized these patterns. What they have done is disillusion an entire generation of first time voters that were progressive and believed their campaign promises, they've disillusioned black voters with their continuous and preposterous police funding and militarization, they've disillusioned Arab-American voters with their stances on Israel's war in Gaza, they've disillusioned women by letting the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade, they've disilllusioned the queer community by standing by idly, while a sizeable number of states is making laws, that are dangerously teethering around genocidal intentions towards trans people. They's disillusioned students with their failed attempts at student loan forgiveness, which were torpedoed internally by them democrats themselves. The problem is not really that immigration is considered the biggest political issue of this cycle, the problem is that the Biden admin has burnt the bridges they have built in order to win the last election. These are the demographics that don't give a damn about immigration policies. This term has turned many of them either into non-voters at best or contrarian doom-voters at worst. And that's what's going to cost him the election. Trump has no problem mobilizing his hounds, matter of fact he received more votes in 2020 than the first time he was elected. Biden will have trouble mobilizing people to vote for him again, because he has spectacularly failed so many central campaign promises AND alienated and antagonized the people that were voting for HIM. Wade, I didn’t know Biden had control with outcome of the Supreme Court. /s Listen, you have the right to criticize Biden. And most of your criticism is valid. But as a Democrat, we also know how politics work. We know that certain bills can’t pass because of the filibuster rule in congress. We know Biden is not the best, but I am not insulted with him as President. Trump, on the other hand, appointed those conservative Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe V Wade. And I don’t trust him to come back and take down our rights to marry (I forgot the case, leave ‘em alone ) It is still to early to predict the election. But democrats are winning popular interests in conservatives states like Montana in senate elections. You can see that there still is somewhat of a blue wave. The rust belt, for now, is still pretty democratic. I don’t know how much this wave will hold, but they have been for the past 3 years, so there is that hope.
