I just don't really get his hype but he's great in Wonka. He looks like a twig though and that someone could break him in half, and I prefer a man with more meat on the bones

That's his hype. He's a good actor. Can't really name a single film he's been in where he turned in a weak performance. Combine that with his overall filmography being generally acclaimed and often very successful films (a couple of exceptions, but generally) and that's where a lot of his star power comes from. 

He's really, genuinely one of the few true movie stars modern Hollywood has.

as much as i don't like him out of acting, i must say he's great at it. I don't know if that's the right move for him career wise, but def worth it for money
