Baltimore bridge collapses

This has me shook. I drove on that bridge a couple times. I used to be absolutely terrified of bridge collapses. I really hope whoever was on that bridge when it happened survived. 

This is full time lapse of what happened. There appears to have been two power outages on the boat that happened prior.

is this an old or relatively new bridge? how did it collapse that easily? were boat collisions not a factor in it's design?

The speed at which it fell when it finally collapsed, knowing the height of the bridge   that's insane. I can't imagine being the captain of the ship. What were they doing in that last moment, knowing they have likely killed people? I can't imagine falling that far in my car. I wonder if they died on impact or drowned after. This makes me feel so uneasy

when there are people involved it's tragic, something you cannot describe

i also think we as people can learn from it or more like ship engineers to find some kind of solution in this kind of situations 
 

I understood what you meant when I read your first post, but with things like this especially since it's pretty recent, it's best to keep it to yourself for now. 

Saying "it looks good." was just a poor choice of wording/decision-making. I can tell you're not a terrible individual, so let's just leave it at this and move on. I wouldn't want you to dig a deeper hole.

Accidents happen because of a reason. A big ship suffering power loss like that is 100% negligence.

I know that as an artist I will often see things happening, even terrible things, or going through something myself, and think that it would make a good scene in a movie or a good theme for a song, but this is another level and even I have limits

I live near Baltimore so quite terrifying to see this happen so close to home. I've been on that bridge myself tons of times. It feels unreal. I've been talking to some of my friends who live in Baltimore about this this morning. I hope everyone who was on that bridge is ok

I hope some people had the luck to make it out alive. My condolences to the families and friends of those who didn't. 🥀

Now, my question is, did they try to anchor the ship when they realized it didn't have enough power? Seems like a situation that could have been avoided.

Driving over bridges is always kind of anxiety-inducing, but the idea of a collapse at night? That is overwhelmingly scary.

One random tip I remember: when crossing a bridge in your car, have your windows "cracked" or rolled down a little bit. This will help the car fill with water quickly, in the event of a collapse. When the car is full of water, you'll be able to open the door and swim out more easily.

It's been open since 1977. This is going to be a mess because some trucks are not allowed to go through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnels. They had to use this bridge. Now they'll have to find some other way to bypass the tunnels.

This is so scary. I thought the captain may have time to call emergency services to close down the bridge but the whole thing seemed to occur in less than 5 minutes.
