Germany officially has legalized Cannabis

Germany's upper house, the Bundesrat, cleared the way to partially legalize cannabis on Friday.

The law is supported by the government and had already passed in the Bundestag, but it could have been derailed by Bundesrat, which is made up of delegates from Germany's 16 state governments.

Some representatives in the chamber argued about negative consequences of the law, and a motion on Friday to send the law to a mediation committee threatened to delay the enforcement of the law.

However, the motion did not receive enough votes, clearing the way for cannabis to become legal on April 1.

Good. There is no reason for cannabis to be illegal while alcohol is legal. Either decriminalize weed or criminlalize alcohol, but don't be blatantly hypocritical just because those alcohol lobbies are paying you the £££. Also a big win for medical cannabis patients and artists.

lmao this is one hot take on the issue. Weed is a hallucinogen after all. It's hard to compare a joint to a glass of wine or even a couple shots of hard alcohol. Even a puff can be much stronger and more incapacitating. And what's with the cliche about artists needing high to be creative?

Gurl, use the quote function to point out where that point was made. It's a win for artists because let's just be for real for some it helps with creativity and unlocking the doors of the mind. Doesn't make them a lesser artist.

Also, there are totally pro's AND con's when it comes to weed. I actually think people who pretend that there are no cons make decriminalization harder. However, I think the pros and cons of weed and alcohol are broadly equivalent. Cannabis may have greater physical harms but then again think of the harms alcohol wreaks not only on somebody's body but on their family, their community, their society, the health services etc

Also: re "even a puff can be much stronger and more incapacitating"

All the more reason to legalize it so that people can shop in properly regulated stores and buy amounts that are sensible and not at all dangerous for them and their level of experience, if they want to take it at all.

I’m taking a course about medicinal cannabis and I’m shook about how weed is illegal because it was tied to black and latinos back in the 20th century and I’M PRESSEDT™

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I don't think it's a hot take to say Alcohol & Weed are comparable.

I mean alcohol is a strong depressant with proven capabilities to cause damage to multiple aspects of bodily function.

Weed isn't officially classified as a hallucinogen - it actually meets the threshold for depressant, stimulant & hallucinogen and there's no actual agreement on what label to grant it.
Weed's ability to trigger hallucinations are rare & not every user will experience them - hallucinogens are defined by the fact that hallucinations are a frequent symptom of use.

Alcohol related deaths in the UK on recent stats were 20,970 in a single year. Cannabis related deaths in the UK on recent stats saw 26 in 2022 & a record high of 36 in 2020.

Ignoring purer forms of alcohol used in professional environments for sterlisiation, alcohol doesn't offer medical benefits as treatment. Cannabis has usages as pain-relief in chronic pain patients, has applications currently in use for treatment for people with extreme debilitating seizures as a result of some epilepsies & has application as a treatment for people with depression & anxiety.

My Biology teacher always used to say when we did modules on drugs that if tobacco & alcohol were discovered by scientists now the medical profession & governments would instantly classify them as dangerous addictive substances rather than allow the existing model of use exist. Their effects on the body & dangers they pose to the body are equal to the majority of controlled substances.
