I don't think this is it tbh.

People were just scared to set a self labelled Democratic Socialist against that bastard Trump (in both 2016 and 2020) regardless of the fact they agreed with him.

Even I felt that fear and was a little relieved when Biden beat him despite agreeing with Bernie more on almost everything:rip:

Things would be different if American voters were capable of/allowed to actually vote for the person they agreed with based solely on policies. If that happened, this country would be a liberal wonderland with universal healthcare, free college, a 32 hour workweek, roads and bridges that weren't crumbling, women with body autonomy, and not a single billionaire in sight.

But nope. It's a game. And far too often, it's a game too dangerous to risk losing so we play it safe which hinders our progress but it at least stops us from sliding backwards.

This is the world we should live in! Don't the French get extremely mad if they have to work over 30 hours or something? Like they're all about their down time and time off. And why not? Life is to be lived and experienced not just work home work home work home die

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

All this will do is force people to have two jobs. Less hours equals less pay. In turn, Americans will be forced to work even longer than they already do

The bill literally would require pay to remain the same. Like it has done in the UK trials & other areas of Europe where there's been government trials of such a working pattern.

Did you even read the OP?

Iirc he actually really struggled with racial minority voters.

His core base was basically young white people, who can't win elections on their own :spin:

Also, we all know even if he had become president exactly none of his progressive policies would have gotten off the ground. The same way this one is DOA.

Thank you

Economy

I dunno if productivity can increase in all industries enough in all industries to offset 8h less a week of work especially in physical jobs. U literally cannot work above a certain speed its impossible.

If ppl are willing to accept any potential overall economic drawbacks tho im all for it.

Personally i think time is priceless and u cant put a dollar figure on its value so im all up for it. Just saying dont expect there to be no economic loss.

France for example has some of the shortest work weeks for example and their productivity although good per hour, its pretty bad in total by developed world standards and wed be talking even shorter weeks than France

Pretty sure their average full time week is 35 not 30

Also their total productivity is a bit low by developed world standards so they are not the best example that cutting hours too much isnt gonna affect economic output

Again tho, that doesnt mean im opposed to it. Time is valuable. But i also think ppl should have realistic expectations too.

The way its sold sometimes makes it sound like theres no drawbacks. But theres always drawbacks and offsets. There is an economic cost. Its just a matter of if u think its worth the benefit or not

It surprises me that Bernie didn't reach beyond white, young voters. It may be because he's from Vermont, and his core electorate is in Vermont, and Vermont is one of the whitest states. But it's more of a coincidence that Bernie is there. I think if he were more in the South, he would have appealed to more groups of voters. I somehow think it's a shame how some groups of voters find him fundamentally unelectable JUST because he's white and old. Bernie, in my opinion, is very different than Biden & Trump. He had realized how capitalism creates inequality in the long term, recognized it and tried to combat it with good approaches - but for which he would have to be president. I also found his findings that life expectancy varies depending on poverty and wealth astonishing, because he provided precise details ( https://www.vox.com/2019/9/10/20857668/life-expectancy-wealth- gap-bernie-sanders). We hear far too little from Biden about this. Indeed, if he had become president, others wouldn't follow his policies and he wouldn't become a game-changer without larger support.

I think it has more to do with his socialist and radical approaches. Everybody is brainwashed to think socialism is bad and really by American definition it's really just communism. And we know how people feel about it here. The best favor he could have ever done for the American public was ease politics into the left side. Instead of $15 hour minimum wage, he should have done $10-$12. Instead of 32 hour work weeks, do 36. Make people realize it's not as hard as it seems and make them want better for themselves. Then move to $15 etc, reduce work weeks more, change tax codes. Pushing anti-capitalist agendas on 4 generations that have all been only exposed to capitalism isn't gonna magically work.

I'll take the economic drawback to wrench a full day of my week back from the clutches of corporate America without becoming too poor to survive :messga:

The US is the richest country in the world, there's no reason we can't relax a bit imo

I mean US is low top 10s in per capita terms, thats way more relevant to what it can afford than total size. :ladyhaha: But yeah still very rich.

But i agree. Time is worth more than money.

But u know me. Even if I support something I do not like it getting promoted in a misleading way. That irritates me about politics. Should promote stuff with honesty and integrity and let ppl decide based on pros and cons

Reality is not every industry can compensate 8 lost hours of productivity by cramming more output into 32h. The hourly productivity may rise due to better rest and state of mind but total output will almost certainly still drop

And while the bill pushes for compensation to not be reduced that doesnt mean ppl wont feel it indirectly. Companies will look to recoup less production ny passing on higher costs and less supply with equal incomes means the market will give companies the amo to do just that. So even if ur income doesnt drop in nominal terms it will drop in real purchasing power value.

Again, not against this necessairily, but likely negative drawbacks shouldnt be sugar coated to the population while trying to push for such a major change :enigma:
