A push to slash the standard workweek from 40 hours to 32 achieved a breakthrough this week, gaining a foothold in the Senate with a proposal that would require businesses to offer the 32-hour workweek but preserve employee pay.

The bill, put forward by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., drew praise from labor advocates who tout the benefits of the reduced hours not only for workers' wellbeing but for the productivity benefits enjoyed by their employers.

...

The standard 40-hour workweek became a federal requirement in 1940, when rudimentary machinery made for diminished worker productivity. Today, much more output can be achieved in fewer hours, advocates say.

A study out of the United Kingdom last month found nearly 9 in 10 companies opted to retain a four-day workweek after participating in a temporary pilot program.

...

Some Republican lawmakers voiced opposition to the newly announced measure in a hearing of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Thursday.

The proposal amounts to an effective pay increase forced upon businesses, Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., said, predicting that the 32-hour workweek would "destroy some employers."

The way I would love this. I'm so frustrated by working full time :smh:

An hour in the mornings to get ready and commute. 8+ hours of work. Time to recoup after work. Then going to bed.

Five days a week. 50+ hours a week.

Having to cram everything else into those precious and short two days off.

And just watching as your life is sapped away :smh:

Do you ever look at Americans and wonder why they never elected this man as president instead of Donald Clown and Genocide Joe?

Keep in mind all the legislators in congress who will vote against this work a grand total of ~130 days a year while the average American clocks in ~240.

And they get tax payer funded healthcare.

AND they get six figure salaries.

ANNNDD they take advantage of their position to make millions of dollars more than they should.

We tried and it was a possibility. The DNC did a number on his campaign to prevent it.

This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

This should be an important conversation to have everywhere. Like I'm sick of working 50 to 60 hours weekly, barely having a life, being paid peanuts and make rich people richer.

This is the way of the future. Some companies already implemented it and it actually boosts productivity.

Considering he’s a bait and switch independent him getting on the 2016 ballot or any other was never an option. He’s also not moderate enough to win over minority groups that the Democratic Party needs.

Iirc he actually really struggled with racial minority voters.

His core base was basically young white people, who can't win elections on their own :spin:

Also, we all know even if he had become president exactly none of his progressive policies would have gotten off the ground. The same way this one is DOA.
