It may be because he's from Vermont, and his core electorate is in Vermont, and Vermont is one of the whitest states. But it's more of a coincidence that Bernie is there. I think if he were more in the South, he would have appealed to more groups of voters. I somehow think it's a shame how some groups of voters find him fundamentally unelectable JUST because he's white and old. Bernie, in my opinion, is very different than Biden & Trump. He had realized how capitalism creates inequality in the long term, recognized it and tried to combat it with good approaches - but for which he would have to be president. We hear far too little from Biden about this. Indeed, if he had become president, others wouldn't follow his policies and he wouldn't become a game-changer without larger support. God knows my math skills are dead right now but if you made $15 an hour and worked 40 hours a week, you'd end up making $18.75 an hour working 32 hours a week. Mother of Puppies 36,615 Posted March 17, 2024 Share Posted March 17, 2024 And 2 days ago I just changed my contract from 25 to 40 hours from now on (+ my side hustle) the thing is: as I work remotely there is no commute & there’s nobody „controlling“ my hours so I can cook something during work, cuddle my dog etc. The important thing with my job is that I have to do my shit & it has to be good… but I think it’s about time to reduce hours everywhere because of technological advancement… and the commute & those long hours away from home is the reason for my remote job & I will never go back if I don’t have to… THEY CALL ME LADY MOP Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Why make the supposition that minority groups not be open to major economic reform? There can be a whole host of reasons he was mainly popular with white people, but the idea that he's too radical for black people is weird. Black voters massively support progressive policies but, like with most of us in 2020, the absolute main goal of the election was to remove Trump. Biden was deemed "more electable" by every voting bloc. It's that simple. There are other theories though. Everything from Biden winning over faith leaders in the south, him being Obama's VP, older black voters not taking well to the "eat the rich" movement, even an ADL survey that showed rates of antisemitism are roughly twice as high for black Americans than the general public. Throw in the Bernie Bros calling black voters "low information voters" in 2016 and 2020 when Hillary and Biden were mopping up the south and you have a perfect storm that cost Bernie the black vote despite them agreeing with his policies.
