bur then again she is kind of overexposed, she didn’t let the world take a break from her and the music isn’t that good this time

I love Training Season, it’s not her best but is definitely good. Houdini though is fire, my favorite DL song ever. I just can’t seem to get enough. It’s a pity this era isn’t peaking up…

Both songs have been growers IMO. Houdini seems steady and is increasing slowly with airplay. I’m frequently hearing it on my local radio. Everyone was freaking out when Physical started to tank but it fueled the momentum for Don’t Start Now to keep rising. No matter what we think of the songs it always depends on if radio plays it a lot. We’ve all heard some pretty crappy songs that became huge hits because radio was blasting them every 10 minutes. Radio will not play Training Season as long as Houdini is in regular rotation and rising.

Its really interesting to see how little Future Nostalgia appears to have impacted her fan base size.

You'd have expected after such a massive era to see her pull big opening numbers.

I think the main thing here is that Dua’s music is catchy and people like her songs, but there’s nothing that they really gravitate to in terms of her image + persona so her fan base is predominantly casual (and thus, not eagerly anticipating a new release).

I don't think her label will change anything about this era. If they are smart, which I think they are, they'll go on business as usual and announce the album/tour.

With that said, I would push Dua to release DL4 faster and before the end of 2025. A four-year break this time around would be a killer for her.

I agree they should go on with DL3 as originally planned, although I'm not sure they will simply based on what's expected of her. It's funny to me that labels are aware they have to change how they do A&R based on the music market but still expect the results of such A&R to be the same if not better.

I don't agree a 4 year wait would be a killer for her career. And I think songs such as Dance the Night are the reason we got more of the same with DL3 and why FN seems a little extended. But honestly FN is still getting a ton of streams, and it didn't really make sense to kill the momentum of it entirely in favor of a new era. DL4 will need 1 of 2 things but it'll be a risk if DL3 is what everybody is now expecting it to be. She'll either need to rework her image and find another sound over several years or she'll need to blitz out a new sound that resonates with the GP. She should really consider revisiting the vibes of DL1 because it sounded very polished, and try to avoid the faster songs such as New Rules. I think a lot of the "sameness" people are hearing in her music are the fact that they're all faster tracks.

I think she's still hugely popular, she's ahead of most others on monthly Spotify streaming numbers, she just needs to move away from this style she's had since FN imo. Maybe a harder dance sound? Plus kids now don't like streaming big artists it's not cool, they'd rather listen to the singer songwriter tik tok one hit wonder like stick season or something :saladga:

"A major artist is coming with the same sound over and over again" "Kids now don't wanna stream major artists, they wanna listen to something not controlled by the record companies that make homogenous music" make it make sense? Why are we dragging younger people for finding new music and not having everything served to them by radio or streaming services?

She's pretty consistently released new songs over that time period though

In this day and age, it takes a long time to build up to what Gaga, Katy, Kesha, and Beyonce were able to do back in their day.

Look at Ariana Grande, she didn't get a number one single until her 5th album!

Kesha? Kesha is a one hit wonder. Dua is way bigger than Kesha lmao.

lol I can tell by your response that you must be pushing 22 or younger.

Kesha has SEVERAL number one hits. Her debut single was Tik Tok, and then had We R Who We R, and Timber. She had 6 other top ten hits, was featured on the number one hit Right Round by Flo Rida, and wrote a massive hit for Britney.

In comparison, Dua only had 5 US top 10 singles.

Charts aren’t everything, of course, but these numbers are clearly indicators of her success, which Dua is yet to tap.

Kesha was MASSIVE in 2009-2014, so school up kiddo

The only hit Kesha had is Tik Tok. Period. No one remembers any of these songs anymore.

As expected. FN was a great album but you need way more than that to stay relevant in this business

I love Houdini, but i think people might be tiring of her endless disco music. Wasn’t she supposed to mix it up with this next album? Not seeing much of that yet….

My take will probably not be popular but... I think Dance the night might've been a mistake. The song did well and was featured in a movie that did well too, but it brought her back too close from the start of her new era. The song having a strong disco vibe à la Future Nostalgia didn't help her part from that era either, it brought her back in. And it kind of f*cked up the 《comeback》factor. When she dropped in november, it wasn't a real one.

Also, the hair color change is not it. It just feels... like she's forcing the change. You just went for 2010 Ariana Grande girl and NO ONE was asking for that. And she's not relatable. We don't know her. She's albanian. Ok. That's pretty much it. She's the gorgeous girl with nice songs to bop to. And that plays against her. She's got no army behind her back but loads of expectations to meet to keep the spot she earned with her previous album.

I agree, this is a huge part of what’s wrong with her brand.
