StrawberryBlond 14,524
Why is she not putting out the album name at the very least? FN was known of months before it came out (though the fact she released the song of the same name as a promo single early obviously gave the game away) which helped with hype. She had the benefit of the album being out during the pandemic because people were stuck indoors and were desperate for entertainment and lockdown meant live performance was impossible for the most part so there was no accusations of not trying hard enough to promote. It allowed her to have a really long era with limited competition from very few big names releasing at the time. But 4 years is a long time, there's a ton of competition this year, she's done limited promo (debuting TS at the Grammys 2 weeks before release was a bad move), the singles so far sound far too similar to her last album and not the sonic departure she's claiming and we literally don't know anything else about this album even though we should upon the second single's release. Ordinarily, this is a sign a label's waiting for a big hit before announcing that stuff and is delaying the album until it happens but with someone like her, we know that isn't the case, her career is a well-oiled machine. Though I've heard she's changed management, so is that something to do with it? Whatever, her team must be pulling their hair out right now, wondering why the public don't seem to be interested when they were all over her last era. I thought they'd be putting out remixes with featured verses, but no. I know the aim was for another long era but it just won't be feasible. If she doesn't have a big British breakthrough when she performs at the BRITs on Friday, this might be it for this era's hopes. It's harsh but true. It’s sad that her team is still desperate for a smash single at this stage in her career. The third album is when you still need a smash to solidify your career, though. The third album is generally the one that decides if you're going to be an act who sticks around or not. It's a myth that people who buy your debut are your fans (in reality, they're just people who like your first album), your second album is when you establish a fanbase but the third is a test of how loyal those fans are. Then you can get hit with the 4th album curse and only the strongest survive. If no singles are hitting, the album is almost guaranteed to flop, no matter who you are and a label doesn't want that. I'm from the UK I've literally heard this song once in radio. I have it on at work and in the car. For some reason this era just isn't hitting. I couldn't turn on the TV or radio for 2 years without seeing Dua (mainly Physical or Don't start now). This is just my personal opinion but the songs just aren't as good as her previous singles. I find them quite forgeable and lackluster which is a shame because 'Future Nostalgia' is one of my lockdown highlights! I remember it coming out and being as happy. This for me, is devoid of passion, but that being said I will wait to see what the album is like but I don't particularly like either of the songs. starcell 385
“Real live organic instrumentation” threw me off more than her saying it’s sonically different…huh? (Also I’ve been a fan since FN and love the new singles, I just would never think “live and organic”)

I'll admit I didn't expect her to tour arenas yet here we are. Props. One thing I'm a tad worried is Kevin Parker being the main producer. I like his work, but i sometimes feel his sound only works for him and him only. Slight exception was his work with Kali Uchis on Isolation. They blended well together. Some don't like the sloppy rollout, some don't like the so-called "sonic departure (while HD and TS are literally Disco)". One user just find her boring.
