I really don't understand the lukewarm reception of the DL3 singles on the forum. While definitely not groundbreaking, both songs still slap. They're absolute bops.

What's mildly annoying is her pace. I give her my respect for trying to re-establish the long era concept but I'm afraid our attention span really has shortened. I feel like she was very lucky with FN and it just kinda happened by chance that she could serve like 5+ singles and have the era running active from the end of 2019 until around Q2 2021.

C'mon, Dua, give us the release date for the album, it's almost been 5 months since the start of the promo cycle.

Agreed, the problem with these musicians having “lightning in a bottle” moments like Future Nostalgia is they think they can artificially make it happen again. FN was simply right place right time, and I think became a mascot for feel-good music during lockdown. If the pandemic never happened, I don’t know if it would have had the same impact.

I find Houdini and Training Season to be really strong tracks, but the environment is different now. A lot of artists are releasing pop, so naturally the public is going to assign the flavor of the month to something new and exciting. I think Beyonce going country is scratching that itch right now. Dua Lipa releasing more Dua Lipa songs just isn’t gonna shake the ground. A long lasting smash single can always happen, but as a fan of pop, I’m more interested in hearing the album.

Big agree tbh.

Also I kind of feel like now we are firmly cemented in the streaming era the whole "main pop girl" thing just doesn't hit the same beats as it did back when you had Gaga vs Katy, Britney vs Xtina, Madonna vs everyone lol
Obvs TayTay is going crazy atm, but no other "pop girl" is hitting those same levels of iconicness I feel like. Idk I might just be old lol

I can't believe there isn't a title or release date yet. Houdini came out in November.

Very weird roll out. Houdini had no promo. Training season was performed almost 2 weeks before it came out and then dropped on a Thursday with a weird video.

I actually think that a small reason “main pop girl” doesn’t have as much chart power now is because the public is less misogynistic or interested in pitting women against each other. I do really think Madonna/Christina/Gaga/Taylor/Katy often benefited from being part of a narrative that compared them to other artists, which rallied their respective fan bases, became hot topics on chat shows, etc. I don’t miss that obviously, but we’re seeing now that songs are more judged on their own merit vs broader narratives around the artists.

Yeah, I agree. I also wonder whether the Barbie song kinda stole the thunder of Houdini. Dua gave the public a break but that song became a hit actually and maybe "exhausted" the potential interest in her new stuff??

The songs are different from her past work but imo not different enough that they couldn't be on Future Nostalgia. Which is fine by me though because I still love Future Nostalgia. :vegas:

Um I’m well aware of this, thanks. Fact is she’s popular in the US as well and it therefore hurt its charting and people knowing about the song. Facts are facts.

Mother of Puppies

I don’t really get the lmao reactions & the hate… if you think her music is bad or ridiculous just don’t listen to it & let the rest of us enjoy her music without pointing fingers

psychedelic or not.. we’ve only heard 2 songs so far & of course she’ll take 2 „safe ones“ to release who aren’t as experimental because they’re singles (just like Gaga had to do with Applause - not releasing Aura or Swine because those aren’t for the masses…)

It ain’t lol

maybe not the singles, but possibly the b-sides are more psychedelic?? we can’t judge her too harshly for this until we’ve heard the full album/music style of the entire project.

(watch me be completely wrong in X months when the album comes out)

Always a couple seconds away from having a mental breakdown
