Vengaboy 1,284
I can tell a lot of us had the same experience with this and it was very much Little Monsters leaning back waiting for that explosion of reactions after this performance. We knew. I'm not saying I wasn't blown away by it still, but it wasn't a surprise. But people finally got it. "Why do you like her so much?" "What's so special about her apart from her crazy outfits?" "What's the big deal?". She is. SHE IS THE BIG DEAL! And she just proved (one of many times) why she is THE performer of our time. EGOT2027 10,894
looking through this reddit thread from 9 years ago and getting emotional at how many "i was so wrong about her" comments there are
Vincem 380
The amount of SHIVERS I get when she sings the first "Climb ev'ry mountain" and it just goes on til the end of the performance. I was in my basement that night rooting for her. I remember being so freaking proud to be a little monster.

kenmonster 208
this was her winning the snatch game like this was that moment she has separated herself from the other girlies in terms of who has the actual talent and can go all the way (not the drag race reference lol)

I’ll truly never forget the week this happened. I was getting texts from friends, my parents, people I hadn’t spoken to since middle school, racist uncles……all saying “you were so right about her.” Back in middle school, I remember fighting for my life defending Gaga as talented…only to be vindicated in the end. Taste always comes out on top!! Truly unbelievable that I used to be the one screaming into the void like, “No Lady Gaga can sing!! Watch her piano performances,” and now even GP people who don’t like her are like, “She’s insanely talented but too much for me.” And the way she’s grown so much vocally even since this!!!!!!! Actually watching this back is so crazy for me. We have watched this woman go from strength to strength, through the lows and the highs. Vocally becoming better, more agile, just overall incredible. When you think about the time period of this performance and put it into perspective when she was at in her life/careers its utterly amazing to think of all thats happened within those 9 years since. We might not realise and sometimes we take things for granted but she went on to do so much and has had so much more success and reaching new heights that if you asked anyone in 2015 if you saw a blockbuster movie with a hit song or an iconic HTS/National Anthem performance, a number one album with an Ariana Grande feature, and several other incredible endeavours within the next 10 years, they would think you were drunk or high. Its remarkable what Gaga has achieved since, she turned her life and her career around. Who knows what the next 10 years will look like? What an inspiration to us all. Never ever give up on you, your dreams, or your passion - no matter how bad it gets.

I watched those two they’re so good! I say greys is definitely just as good as those two! At least the first 9 seasons are worth watching for sure. But by season 10 the quality went down when the best actors left and the plots became laughably repetitive lol
StrawberryBlond 14,872
Well, it technically began when she released C2C in 2014. It got a better critical reception than AP, it sold really well for an album of its kind (over 773k in the US and over 1 million worldwide), it got heavily promoted with an H&M deal and the live special and unlike AP, it got nominated for and won a Grammy, Gaga's first since TFM era. But it was still a niche project. But it was necessary to endear her to professional critics. But this medley was when we really were cooking with gas. It truly was a career-defining performance. No matter what you thought of her, that talent couldn't be denied after watching. I'd heard all these songs before but not Climb Ev'ry Mountain and the way she sang it made it sound like the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard. The big Disney-sounding production moment at the part where she sings "every day of your life" still brings tears to my eyes. It felt like she was singing this song regarding her career - it was always her dream to make it as a musical legend and she had no intention of fading away after 3/4 albums. This was her declaring that no matter how hard she'd have to work to pick herself back up again, she'd be on top until she achieved that dream. It came across so well because it was very fitting for her to sing in that moment. It was a moment of the stars aligning. The following year, she got her first ever Oscar nomination and the rest is history, now she's a firm favourite at that ceremony, the person who's performed the most at the ceremony. Year after year proving that we picked the right one to stan for. Here's to another 9 years of our girl extending her legacy.

MOT 3,077
Great thread. I only boarded the train in 2019 so I didn't experience this performance in real time at all. It was just one of the ones I came across when I began checking back on her career. I can see now how important it was, and her comeback story is such a great story. Looking forward to LG7 and Joker and whatever comes next from this amazing little person.
