She was known as and is still referred to as the South Asian Queen of Pop. She is very famous in Pakistan and India with numerous artists releasing covers and movies remaking her songs. She was a lawyer by education but a pop music queen. The hold her music had and still has here is powerful. Unfortunately she was married to Ishtiaq Baig who is a businessman and had ties to the government. There were reports that he would physically and emotionally torture her, beat her, keep her captive in his home and it was also claimed by Nazia's family and people close to her that he poisoned her. He later sued the family for defamation and the case is still going to this day and got away with the abuse and other charges because of his influence. Nazia died on August 13,2000 and pulmonary embolism was considered the cause for it.
