Gaga paid $12M for JFAD; $200M budget

ARTPOPSYCHOLOGY

Someone else posted a similar thread a while back, but given the astronomical budget, if the movie isn’t as successful, I just know the general public (straight DC fans) will blame gaga. Granted they have money to play with given the amount of money. The first one made on almost 1/3 of the budget, but still, this is going to be the most important acting role of her life. Personally, I know she’s going to nail it.

I smell tax write off x money laundering on the producers' part. Lawl

Not sure what you are saying here. This movie got a release date.

You can't tax write off a movie and keep releasing it. The government will want their money back if you do that.

REALITY

She hasn't really though, is the thing.

I doubt she'll win an Oscar for this unless its really, really, really exemplary. The fact Joaquin got one for the first film is nothing short of a miracle. Not undeserved, but this genre is an uphill battle awards wise and i don't foresee this repeating the first one's successes in that department, even if it's better.

The first Joker movie was barely a comic book movie though. It was a drama—which the Oscars traditionally love—that just happened to have the "Joker" branding. I don't know if she'll win, but I could definitely see her getting nominated. The only way she won't is if the movie is bad, which I don't imagine tbh. Or if the competition is particularly tough next awards season.

Reject False Icons

its really ironic that a movie with an anti system message gets such a huge budget :messga: I guess it appeases the masses to show their desires on the big screen rather than executing them irl

Is marketing included in that? If so I get it

When talking about movie budgets, companies often don’t include marketing. idk about this case though, but it’s very likely it’s without, because WB sees how profitable the first movie was and is more willing to splurge for the sequel

Everytime they announce crazy budgets like these, the movies usually flop on ticket sale... hope this is not the case :(

Not really, a lot of huge movies end up being a success. And this is a follow-up to one of the most profitable movies in the last decade, it will be a huge moment.

$12m is great but she needs to have her name on the production credits too.

Why? She isn't a producer in this
