Who else made cyberpunk, let me think?.. DAVID BOWIE!! Just in line with her looking like him in the studio recently. 'His cyberpunk albums would end up having a profound and lasting impact on rock in general, punk, new wave, electronica, and in Eno's work of ambient' Am I into something? https://blog.adafruit.com/2020/09/07/did-you-know-that-david-bowie-and-brian-eno-did-a-cyberpunk-record-cyberpunk/ So just to disambiguate a little: the record they’re predominantly referring to (Outside) is mostly an experimental noir art rock record (with occasional industrial rock/jungle influence), not really what folks would often associate with modern cyberpunk adjacent styles (synth wave, post punk etc.) I know you highlight that a bit when discussing the genres Bowie influenced, but I just wanted to clarify for folks that might’ve only looked at Cyberpunk in bold lol Some of the poppier cuts from that record: We have forgotten our public MANNERS

Awrah999 4,304
Our girl has the chops, passion, and musical intelligence to make an amazing rock album. She’s definitely trolling us. Something tells me rock is always what she’s wanted to do and what better time than now when she’s already an established legend. She has (cue Marry The Video video) ~nothing to lose ~

She said she quit pop music, and then Joanne turned out to only be lightly influenced by pop. Maybe, this album isn’t pure rock, but a subgenre, like: Alt-rock Heavy metal Pop-rock Rock n Roll Grunge Art-rock Electronic Rock Gothic rock Industrial rock Needless to say, she’s a sarcastic person overall sometimes. So this changes nothing about my genre expectations. I’m perched tho! Maybe it's called Artrock

Guest
How would this differ from 'Born This Way'? That has rock elements. Especially songs like 'Judas" and 'Electric Chapel'. I feel like she's done the rock route already. Although I'd be here for another 'Born This Way"!!!!
