It's not that people don't care for musicals, it's that studios think the idea of a musical is bad, so they want to distance themselves from that narrative whenever they try to market these films. It's a piss poor strategy imo. If the movie is a musical, just say so and market it that way. Instead of trying to appeal to people who don't like musicals, just appeal to the people who do. Reality 65,766 Posted February 14 Share Posted February 14 The movie was never going to be something like The Greatest Showman, In The Heights, etc. Anyone who thought that those were going to be the "musical elements" of the film just has a rudimentary understanding of what musicals are. The first movie had a ton of "musical elements" in it, and I expected them to keep the same vibe, but maybe add a bit more. If song and dance sequences are integral to the overall artistic product and have a significant amount of the runtime devoted to them, it’s a musical.
