National Security threats typically mean threat of an attack on US soil. So something like the invasion of Taiwan, the ongoing situation in Gaza, invasion of Ukraine etc aren't usually described as "National Security" threats as they're US allies not US land. 

The DHS for example covers Public Safety/Security threats, Border & Immigration Security, Critical Infrastructure Threats & threats to Economic security as forms of threats to National Security. 

The UK has the National Threat Levels as another example which focus on risk of terrorism - primarily meaning attacks like 7/7 & the Manchester bombing.

Sounds like nothing worth worrying about unless leaders of NATO countries suddenly start to make similar domestic meetings

I mean, true, but National Security can also refer to data, intelligence, cyber infrastructure etc. National Security can imply a broad range of things that don’t have anything to do with violent attacks on US soil

In all fairness, the Russian cyber ops are typically associated with their military/secret services. 

I think it's fairly clear Turner is playing politics as 2 days ago he was going against the caucus & Speaker and publicly calling for a deal on renewed military aid for Ukraine. 
If intelligence exists to suggest Russia are preparing to escalate the existing conflict, which at this point Turner has seen, it makes sense for him to push for something that would force Mike Johnson & the rest of the House GOP to stop ****ing about with appropriation bills. 

Given Turner's links to NATO, something tells me Russia is either moving its Nukes or about to attack another border nation. Russia has recently bolstered western border troop numbers.

"One of the sources who has seen the intelligence confirmed that “it is, in fact, a highly concerning and destabilizing” Russian capability “that we were recently made aware of.”

It's a bit conflicting. That Congressmember says it's "long-standing", but this other source says "recently made aware of".

I think it could be a new type of dangerous weapon developed by Russia. Or maybe something related to Cyber weapons?

If thats the case I guess there has been some developments in the Russian hypersonic weaponry they've been toying with throughout the invasion of Ukraine

I mentioned those in the DHS example lol. 

It's standard in intelligence/defence/int. relations fields to refer to those as attacks on national soil/sovreignty. Attack in this area doesn't always mean violent attacks like a bombing etc, the UK National Threat Levels are primarily focused on the threat of violent attack though - especially the Northern Ireland specific one.

Politico earlier reported that the House GOP are having yet another civil war, this time the Intel committee vs the Judiciary committee over renewing FISA section 702 which relates to intelligence gathering on foreign individuals abroad. 
So it could even be the Intel community in Government playing politics to force through the renewal.
