Dua Lipa teases “Training Season” video

She’s following the same formula for her new era as with FN. I’m expecting high budget video now (just like for the second single Physical off FN).

Has she lost momentum with trying to repeat the long rollout of FN? Will she regain it with this song? I don't see her repeating the success of the previous singles no matter what the quality of the new music is. If this single doesn't take off, the album will be basically dead on arrival and done for. And she can't wait for 3 months more. I expect it to be a one-week event between Ariana, Bey and Taylor. :messga:

I wouldn't discount her.

She's generally more popular among younger audiences than Beyonce or Ariana, for example. What she lacks in stans she makes up for in general listening popularity.

She'll always come last against those three in the chart race, but her streaming performance is insane. I think by end of year she'll be the top female artist for streaming after Taylor Swift (who's iconically merely gaming the system with these re-records).

so I love Dua but this era feels underwhelming. The imagery isn't as stricking and memorable as the Future Nostalgia era or even the New Rules mini era during her debut....something isn't captivating. Even her Grammy performance was TECHNICALLY perfect but the visual component was so underwhelming and you kinda don't remember it unlike her performances during Future Nostalgia...idk

I don't think it is something to worry about, Beyonce is not nearly as popular as Dua Lipa is globally, she does not factor into this and Ariana's latest single might have debuted at #1 in the US but the truth is that the song is a massive bomb and has fallen all the way to 17 with the most recent chart update, while Houdini remains stable. The song might not have taken off in the US in a big way but it was a decent hit worldwide.

Training Season sounds like something that could smash globally, hopefully we get a high budget video. Dua Lipa always has long eras, don't forget that neither the FN singles or Dance the Night were giant hits initially but that changed over time.

Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

I totally disagree with you about that grammy performance, it was perfect in every way, including visually, that whole cage bit was really cool and she rocked the leather look. There is a reason everyone was calling it the standout performance of the night. It felt like the real launch of the new era, Houdini was more like bridging the gap between FN and the new album in my opinion.

I don’t think this single will take off either. She’s displaying Katy Perry syndrome rn, where the music is trying to be repackaged as this “new” sound and look from her but ends up falling short maybe cause she set the bar with FN when it comes to dance music. If I we’re her, I would have dabbled with a new sound entirely like pop rock maybe which I think she can easily pull off and would go well with the red hair she’s pushing.

Waiting to see what this song is all about. Lately all her music sounds the same to me and is starting to get boring very fast

agree w the comments above that while she's technically doing everything right, there's a certain charisma lacking in the songs

Houdini sounds like a solid track #7, not a lead single, and unfortunately Training Season doesn't sound much more promising. The singles from FN were so magnetic that, since she hasn't really switched up her sound to a considerable degree, we can't help but compare, and this new stuff just isn't as good

(which sucks cuz she killed it at the Grammys and only seems to be improving as a performer)
