Biden holds press conference to defend his memory and cognitive state

President Biden on Thursday fiercely defended his cognitive abilities and memory in the wake of a special counsel report that offered a scathing assessment of the president’s recollection of key elements of his life and political career.

Biden squarely pushed back on the report’s most eyebrow-raising details, in which special counsel Robert Hur calls Biden “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” Hur used that assessment to determine that it would be unlikely for a jury to convict Biden for his handling of classified documents.

I’m well-meaning and I’m an elderly man and I know what the hell I’m doing. I’ve been president, I put this country back on its feet. I don’t need his recommendation,” Biden told reporters in last minute remarks at the White House.

“My memory’s fine. My memory’s– take a look at what I’ve done since I became president… how did that happen? I guess I just forgot what was going on,” he said, striking a sarcastic tone.

He also firmly pushed back on reporter’s questions over concerns voters have about his age, contending that was a belief held by the media during a rare, and at times contentious press conference from the Diplomatic Reception Room.

He also appeared to get emotional in bashing a part of Hur’s report that claimed he forgot when his son, Beau Biden, had died.

“There’s even reference that I don’t remember when my son died. How in the hell dare he raise that. Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself it wasn’t any of their damn business,” he said.

But, as if to underscore the concerns raised by the special counsel, Biden in response to a final question regarding the Israel-Hamas war, question mistakenly referred to the “president of Mexico, Sisi,” when referring to the president of Egypt.

Actually the report said they won't charge him because there isn't sufficient evidence to support the report's claims

Not a press conference to say "I'm not senile!" :bear: All my opinions on Biden aside, he's making a fool of himself, and it's not a good look.

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

The report admits Biden willfully retained classified information, so they admit he broke the law, but they wont charge him because hes a well meaning forgetful old man. Then they listed specific conversations they had with him where he could not remember key details from his life, like when he became vice president!

"Special Council has found that Biden willfully retained classified information but due to his poor memory issues, he won't be charged.

"We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory," Hur wrote in the report. "Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone from whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him—by then a former president well into his eighties—of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.""

"It is possible the Afghanistan documents, which were in ordinary folders that were not packaged or marked as containing classified information, were needles in the haystack of Mr. Biden's papers."

"While it is natural to assume that Mr Biden put the Afghanistan documents in the box on purpose and that he knew they were there, there is in fact a shortage of evidence on these points. We do not know why, how, or by whom the documents were placed in the box. We do not know whether or when Mr. Biden carefully reviewed the box's contents. We do not know why only some of Mr. Biden's classified memos to President Obama from the fall of 2009 were found in the box, but several other memos he wrote during that time were not. And we do not know why Mr. Biden would have wanted to keep some of the other marked classified documents"
