Trump Narrowly Leads Recent CNN's Presidential Election Polls

Polls like this don’t mean much until we are a few months away from the election.

Whoever wins won’t win by much and both Trump and Biden might struggle with independents more than you’d think.

Why can't there be a third option?

Americas 2 party system. How great :ladyhaha:

I mean here in Canada not that different. We have a 3rd party (NDP) that has a degree of relevance and enough seats to influence votes but in terms of winning the elections (at least Federally) its also always between the Liberals or Conservatives

U could call Canada a 2.5 party system :ladyhaha:

Both if they both struggle wouldnt that advantage/disadvantage largely neutralize eachother then?

Sort of. Trump struggled heavily in 2020 with independents. Biden might struggle this year. But it will again come down to independents in swing states.

I still cant believe half of America supports this guy...

I know so many conservatives (here in Canada) but even a lot of them can reason enough that just because hes a conservative doesnt mean he makes any sense or has any sanity

We do have some whaco conservatives here like Poivre but still seem so mild compared to Trump :enigma:

This is why polls are bullshit these days.

This is the only part of the poll that actually makes sense, and it ought to be determinative. The most ridiculous part is

It's ridiculous for that last number to be anything above zero, and regardless how anybody feels (rightly or wrongly) about Biden, I'd like to remind prospective voters of color that TRUMP HATES YOU. Seriously, it's like, his whole thing. (That and tax cuts for the rich, of course.)

I cant say im shocked tbh

I realize US politics are a bit different than Canadas and we cant make an exact comparison but if theres even a tiny shred of parallel u can make... many of the most conservative ppl I know are people of colour not white people

There are a number of factors I can think of that might make the percentage of coloured ppl that are conservative in Canada higher than in the US vs white people but even so, i imagine to a lesser degree some of those individuals exist there too

For some maybe their general conservative leaning may outway or overpower any racist vibes Trump gives off

Like im just saying im not shocked by this in the slightest

Tbh.

The US is lucky it has world reserve status and is such a large self reliant competitive economy. It makes it a bit more idiot proof because u almost have to intentionally try to sabatoge it for it to collapse as it has more natural resiliency

If my Country (or most other countries for that matter) were governed with half the incompetence of the US, we would have turned into 3rd world status by now

But the US is so large and industries operate on such a large scale, the private economy does its own thing and still manages to self correct and self manage (to a degree) no matter how many times the goverment puts road blocks or a sledge hammer to self inflict pain in its own economy

Of course if better governmened the economy could work for more ppl and not have so much suffering and poverty. Im not suggesting things are peachy down there. Im just saying its unique status makes a total meltdown and collapse harder to occur despite severe political ineptitude

Other Countries when severely mismanaged or corrupt often end up in severe decline like Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina etc (tho those are extreme cases)

Then again, I really should know better than to expect much from Americans. My bad, honestly.

I'm European and majored in American Studies. Go off, I guess. lol

I seem to have missed the part where I said that Dems are better than Trump voters, as you implied in your first reply. Could you elaborate? I value democracy, therefore I value every vote against fascism. That's all. I'm not at all talking about certain people or demographics being better than others. Is there anything else in my original post that you found hard to understand?

I'm not sure why you find it funny that US voters can only choose between the lesser of two evils. Yes, more parties to choose from would be great. But not in an election in which fundamental rights are at stake, especially those of vulnerable groups. So yeah, I'm truly glad that your opinion doesn't matter in all this - just like mine. But unlike you, I couldn't ever imagine voting a fascist into office.

It doesn't matter what you specifically *said* when your whole demeanor is just reeking of disdain and a false sense of superiority, sis :huntyga:

Yet you are doing exactly that. Do you think Biden is not a fascist? Does "not being as fascistic as Trump" make him not a fascist?

Do you think your attitude towards dissenters against Biden is not fascistic?

Do you think the fact that you care for some vulnerable groups while completely disregarding others is normal?

Do you think that telling people they are "Trump voters" just because they do not want to vote for someone who is actively partaking in a genocide? Would you fault them for looking and advocating for a third option rather than the a genocidal, fascist-lite democrat, and a equally genocidal, fascist republican?

Just say that you want to get rid of democracy altogether, because that's what Trump ANNOUNCED that he is going to do. Getting rid of democracy and minority rights is what he stands for. You making this comment just cements my impression that most people just cannot be trusted to make informed decisions these days. And yet, I'm going to defend democracy to the death.

Of course we must accept a majority vote (also something that Trump doesn't stand for), but please let the sane people be happy about every lost vote that would have gone to the devil, yes?

I absolutely hate trump and his sheep following, but that doesn’t mean I’m okay with suppressing votes lol y’all can’t pretend to care about democracy then celebrate when certain people can’t vote lol

The person in question can't vote because they're not from the US, if I understood them correctly. Not because anybody wants to take away their legal rights or sth. So why would non-Trump voters and all those who are worried about him getting back into office and completely changing the foundations of American democracy not be happy about people from outside the US not being able to vote him into office?

Again, Trump says he wants to end US democracy as we know it. A person from outside the US, who cannot vote there anyway, says Trump might be the better choice. I, also not a US citizen, am glad that this person cannot cast a vote for Trump because I care about American democracy, its global impact and my friends who are living in the US. I genuinely don't understand what's wrong with that.

I'll ignore those weird personal accusations in your first paragraph as I think you're just projecting a lot here.

I never said that Biden is a great choice. I said exactly the opposite. But the stakes in this election are too high. Please do show the dems a lesson, yes! But not if the implications are as grave as they are right now. And even if a reelected Trump doesn't manage to overthrow democracy, he would still be the one to appoint SC judges for the next years, and we've all seen how that turned out when women lost their rights over their own bodies.

Please don't put words in my mouth and try to read my posts properly before you reply.
