Wow,She called J Lo a scam and can’t sing,J Lo certainly doesn’t need this kind of disrespect, she was successful for a reason and Ayo certainly need to shut her mouth if she wants to survive in this industry.

Jlo's music career was fabricated by Tommy Mottola to replace Mariah and destroy her career. There was never real artistry to begin with. She's the embodiment of industry plant.

Am I weird for thinking this a completely normal take? I don't hate JLo, but I don't love her either. I'm very indifferent towards her, but regardless of that, Ayo's talking like a completely normal person here. Like, she's not making this grand statement or something. She's just having a conversation with someone on a podcast, and truthfully, it sounds like the way a lot of y'all talk about various artists too.

It's so weird to me that stan culture and people online can say the most heinous and outrageous things about celebrities but the moment that another celebrity says something mildly offensive—if you can even call what Ayo said here "offensive"—about another celebrity people wanna act like saints. It ain't that big of a deal.

The difference here is we're talking about public people. Sharing a harsh opinion on a forum like this doesn't have the same reach as a celebrity saying something publicly. Generally speaking, it's just a little tasteless and bound to catch up with people, like now with the fact they're both on SNL.

Christina Milian, Meghan Trainor, and Ashanti’s checks have cleared. They should be getting royalties. Their background vocals are in the songs and were left unaltered. I don’t think JLo ever said “That’s all me singing in every track.”

She doesn’t have the strongest vocals but the does have that X factor. She can dance, she turns looks, she has a collection of bops, she can entertain. I’m not a stan or anything but from her live performances she does pretty good.

Support the background vocalists music if you are upset with JLo. Christina Milian has some great songs, I think Whatever U Want should be a lipsync song. Ashanti’s debut album was big and I was so into it. Second did good. Third kinda fizzled. She hasn’t had a big hit in ages. Meghan’s last album came and went and even got rereleased.

Why do we have to support the background singers if we want to complain about J.lo not singing her songs? And yes J.lo never said she sings every single vocals on her song, but we should assume she would.

As a huge Mariah fan I have to say Tommy was doing everything he could to sabotage her as he did with the sample stealing- but her career was already having issues since the divorce. JLo’s success was not based on Mariah’s failures, that would give either one too much credit in each others lives. So no, her entire career was not a huge fabrication to replace Mariah. She would have been signed by some other label anyways because of the success of Selena and the rise of the dancer turned singer, which we know Mariah is not. This also totally ignores the Latin pop explosion happening at the time that made her career explode. That has nothing to do with Mariah’s career waning.

The stan culture conspiracy theories get really tiring especially when they just totally disregard history or factual information.

Just because he used her to get to Mariah, doesnt mean shes not a true artist. He also only started using her against Mariah after J.los third album when she was already a huge artist.

That's for them to dish out then. They're both aware that they're public figures and I'm sure they're capable of talking things out if they need to. Unless someone is actively harassing or bullying another person, quite frankly I don't understand why people feel the need to have a visceral reaction to Ayo's—or any other celebrity's—opinions about another celebrity figure.

I feel like this is only recently a sentiment that is retroactively trying to discredit careers, but a lot of people already knew that it’s not her. I don’t mean to be rude to people either, but it’s quite clear that the voice on the verse and the voice on the chorus are different on some songs. These were #1 songs that were constantly being played on the radio. People knew.

Now you’re definitely allowed to not like it, but it’s not a big lie that JLo is somehow getting away with. What about the Rihanna songs with demo vocals? Some Toni Braxton songs that still have them? People don’t talk about those as much because it’s common…

Yeah I agree its not a big deal at all, and almost everyone does it, specially in that time.

People really have no knowledge of the popular vocal mixing styles of the late 90s/early 2000s when she debuted, which is fine I guess because that shouldn’t be common knowledge but when you use it as material for jokes it just doesn’t make sense for people who do know. I took classes in college that briefly covered this but it was quite common for artists, especially R&B to keep demo vocals on their records. Tons of reasons for it but it can give a “girl group” type of sound to a solo artist. JLo always sings the verses and then does ad libs or is layered on top of the demo vocal on choruses- again quite common. The singers are all credited too. Whether someone personally didn’t know about it isn’t her scamming or lying. They would have said it was demo vocals when the songs came out.

There are tons of examples of this from popular artists, especially on popular songs we all listen to but nobody seems to care. Have your opinions on the practice sure, but to act as if she’s the only popular artist that did this is incredibly dumb.

Reminds me of this song. Very clearly not Britney on the chorus.
