Biopics ifself are such a risk. And with all this controversy around the movie, I'm afraid her acting career might actually suffer for life.

I want her to play an original character. Ally was original but obviously very similar to herself and I hate that it had ZERO female characters besides her, House of Gucci is a biopic, and Harley Quinn has been portrayed on screen already. She’s a good actress, but I want to see a big movie with her playing a character that is completely hers and unrelated to music. Id be okay with her playing a book character even, and no one needs a Cleopatra movie anyways.

Lady Gaga doesn't owe us anything

But Cleopatra was Macedonian from Ptolomeic dinasty. She was not dark skinned or looked Like most of egyptians.

Yes. As I said, it doesn't matter. A movie about a white woman in Egypt is never going to not be controversial.

I can only think of her for this role. And for the political correctness police: Cleopatra was of Mediterranean descent, so is Gaga. Wholeheartedly hope she does it, especially since she's expressed a will to. The project is in good hands with Denis Villeneuve.

They're not going to change historical facts because people today are too stupid to inform themselves :awkney:

Gaga can look veeeery Mediterranean when she's tan, like in my profile picture for instance when she was living her Botticelli fantasy. In comparison, I'm white as a sheet.

To be honest, Cleopatra should be played by an Arab actress, not White, not Black.

I wouldn't be mad at that, I'm not a casting fascist, but... why tho? Cleopatra had minor Iranian origins, but the consensus as of today is that she was mainly of Macedonian-Greek descent. So Mediterranean. And she was famous for her nose. HELLO.

Well both an Arab or Mediterranean white woman would be close to the "type" Cleopatra had so yep why not.

Or they decide to not go for accuracy and they could take a completely different ethnicity which would pissed many folks I guess. 😆

Controversiaga

Also Gaga doesn’t have the accent.  There are Mediterranean / Greek / Macedonian actresses who won’t have to transform as much and be able to deliver a more authentic performance .  Gaga is Italian AMERICAN.  She was blasted for her ITALIAN accent in HOG.  Imagine what they’ll say about her Mediterranean / Greek / Macedonian / Egyptian accent

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

As a Macedonian Greek I will take no insult by Gaga portraying Cleopatra.

Middle Easterners and Greeks have genetic admixture. In most cases, you can't differentiate between a Greek woman and a Lebanese woman.

Cleopatra is more than just a race. A Middle Eastern woman will not only look like her but will also pay tribute to the fact that Cleopatra is part of the Middle Eastern culture and heritage.

At the end of the day, nobody was there 2 millennia ago to take a good look at Cleopatra's face and say what shade of brown she was, this is all speculation and consensus. I hear your explanation, and as I said I would be totally fine with a Middle-Eastern actress taking the role. But I feel Gaga does fit the bill immensely: ethnicity, nose, talent and overall star power. She's someone that can follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth Taylor.

I mean if it's about looking close, an Italian type is pretty close of a Macedonian Greek one.

Tbf she would probably look quite like what Cleopatra actually looked like so why would that be an issue?

Her family did everything to maintain their lineage with plenty of relatives-f*cking to achieve it so she surely was Mediterranean-looking.

I get what you are saying. But it's like the whole controversy about straight guys playing gay roles etc. People will be mad about this, and with everybody so sensitive nowerdays + the media who take this to create polarisation..

I really think playing Cleopatra will do no good to her. It may even harm her career.

It's an honor.

I thought it was like 99% going to Zendaya?

I'd definitely be here for Gaga filling the role.
