HIM820 1,874
Why is it that 3 years in a row one of the big snubs are always in Best Actress? Misogyny? Are the snubs more obvious? Or do people care more about actresses online than they do about the actors? I think it’s a big mixture of all of it. 22 - Gaga snubbed 23 - Leslie getting a surprise nom, Viola or Danielle snubbed 24 - Margot snubbed It’s kinda like we can expect the Actress category to have problems every year now and it’s weird. She was nominated everywhere else. That’s what constitutes it as a snub. She had better odds at the nomination than the other people who got nominated. Barbie is most likely not going to win Best Picture, so lots of people saw (at least) nominating her and Greta as acknowledgments of the insane year they had. By not even doing that they’ve opened the floodgates for people to rightfully call it out now. I think people are realizing how the Oscar’s operate and just don’t like it- which is good. If a different movie with a more “serious” plot and directed by Scorsese/Nolan had the exact same amount of success Barbie did last year- it would be sweeping all the awards and nominations. I wouldn’t like that either but it’s showing how Barbie is being treated differently just because it’s not an obvious awards movie- the ones Hollywood cry that nobody sees as they’re shoveled off to Netflix. They got really lucky with Oppenheimer this year, which ironically had a huge assist from Barbie, so I’m assuming that will be the big winner of the night. I think it's the other way around. Female performances are very strong every year that it's almost impossible for people to name the same 5. Even if the category were 10, it'd feel like someone was left out. Best Actor on the other hand, can't believe Will Smith was the best that year, such a mediocre win. SevenWonder 4,484
Barbie was a super fun if somewhat silly movie. It's "win" was raking in a billion dollars and counting. Margot produced it, so she's crying all the way to the bank. Also, she's probably the biggest star in her age group. She'll win one soon enough. Man, I so wanted to love Flowers. I love the subject material. But it was boring. I know Colman doesn't stand a chance, but his performance in Rustin was all time great. I love him. My acting picks: Lily (though Emma could sneak a win). Cillian (though Paul G could sneak a win). Randolph (book it). RDJ (book it). Director: Nolan (book it). Film: Oppenheimer (book it) Song: Idk. I think Billie, but not sure.

Ryan Gosling was funny, but the fact that Ken got so much attention felt icky. Like, there was actually a lot of stuff to talk about with the Barbie storyline, but people just sidelined that for "omg isn't Ken so funny?!", "omg I'M KENOUGH!". The fact that neither Margot nor Greta were nominated for their respective parts of the movie and Ryan was kinda proves the movie right. Literally giving men praise for the bare minimum It's poor optics for sure. She/Her/Hers

gumzy3000 7,527
I don't care about Margot not getting a best actress but not giving Greta a best director nomination is criminal. She broke so many records as a woman director with Barbie! I feel like the academy does stuff like this on purpose. They don't give talented people awards so fast. They usually give it years later after multiple critically acclaimed projects. I am sure they see Greta as very talented and they want her to prove herself further. trolly troll troll
Wolf Boy 3,384
The Greta snub is WILD. Wow. The Margot snub is surprising only because she’s been nominated at every other awards show.
