1668081982-profimedia-0703451028.jpg?crop=focalpoint&fit=crop&h=475&w=830Against the backdrop of escalating rhetoric from Transnistrian politicians, Moldova and Transnistra held a meeting to further negociate the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute. In this respect, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Republic of Moldova Oleg Serebrian stressed the meeting "took place against a rather complicated and complex background".

The Republic of Moldova decided to impose vamal fees on exports for good from the internationally unrecognized republic ruled from Tiraspol. Transnistria, angered by this decision, decided to retaliate by increasing taxes on the 8 Romanian scmain-qimg-6b58e12b488736dd1a02858ca949dda3-lqhools in Transnistria and coercing farmers from Dubăsari to contribute to the Transnistrian budget.

However, yesterday Moldova received assurances from Tiraspol that the activity of the eight Romanian schools in the separatist Transnistrian region "will not be endangered".

"At least, as far as the Romanian-language schools are concerned, we have Tiraspol's promise that their operation will not be jeopardized. We had concerns about the eight schools in the Transnistrian region. We hope that the subject has been closed", said Oleg Serebrian.

Answering how the customs duties collected from Transnistria will be used, Serebrian said If we were to count the volume of expenses from the state budget for citizens on the left side of the Dniester, we would equal or exceed the amount that is taken from customs taxes. Undoubtedly, this money goes back to the region. They return differently - in scholarships, medical services, pensions - and our interest is to increase these expenses for our citizen on the left of the Dniester.

It seems MOL & TRA continue to have unbridgeable different opinions and it will take more years to solve.

True, the negociations consistently ended in ''Agree to disagree'' and progress by the Republic of Moldova was incremental at best.

But Russia not being involved in negociations anymore and being tied up in Ukraine are good signs for the resolution of the conflict. We will be waiting.
