the minute i saw the mv I knew the reference to Paula's most iconic mv Cold Heart Bish Snake! Love that song so much!

That said, does Ariana know that it is referencing that mv? Sometimes I feel like the directors do omage to other mvs without informing the artist and then in interview the artist is shook and serve Pikachoo type face like this: 

"yeah me love that artists yeah it was for sure reference them! of course! thank you"

Ariana was clearly referencing Fosse but tbf I don’t know the Paula video

Not when Paula Abdul choreographed this dance number herself and is one of the dancers (bottom left)

That's the issue with being relevent. Paula hasn't been musically relevent for a long while so she is detached from "the game". Madonna on the other hand just came off the biggest female tour of all time at the time (Hard Candy Nurtec World Tour or whatever it was called) and she had a mega smash hit playing on the radio 4 Minutes with Justin Timberlake at his commercial peak. She was very much so still IN THE GAME if that makes sense so she still felt competitive and insecure by Gaga's presence, domination and comparisons and then she lashed out on Gaga and was beyond cruel because of her insecurities. Had she been a flop for like a decade or more I think she would have liked Gaga and the comparisons because it would have made her a little relevant again (kinda like Paula's reaction to Ari) but because at the time Madge was still in the game, charting, competing with the younger girls on the charts, award shows etc..she felt threaten. Flop long time = good heart and kindness punk. Still commercially successful = bish behavior. This doesnt apply to everyone of course as we have seen Gagz be nice to other females even at her commercial peak and we have seen girls like Beyonce and Taylor etc be nice to other girls compared to them and stuff BUT yeah.
