It wouldn't have been a hit with Rita, so it was for the best.

Agreed. The thing is a decent portion of padam’s success was bc of disco’s success previously among gays so a new Kylie song just had to be fun and addictive which this song did

If anyone else than Kylie sang the song it would be meh, Kylie really took it to the next level with her unique vocals

I'm glad it got a shot at life with Kylie.

Giving a song to Rita seems like the equivalent of leaving your baby in a dumpster.

GIRL :rip:

I mean thank god she did. I love Rita but... the combination of Kylie and the song is what made it work.

Appart from Kylie there’s only one artist that could have pulled it off perfectly and it’s Britney

Rita wouldnt have made this a hit. Part of why Padam Padam went top ten in the UK and stuff was the "comeback narrative" associated with the track. Plus Kylie SERVEd in the mv in a way that i dont think Rita would...her visuals tend to be pretty basic whereas Padam Padam's mv was made with care even though it clearly had a very small budget. The director and Kylie knew how to maximize that budget lol!

No shade to Rita obviously...just saying it's clear why PAdam was a hit wasn't just because it was a good pop song. It had a lot to do with it being a good pop song sang by Kylie and the narrative around it.
