HelloHangoverz 16,261
I'm really not a Marvel person like I don't get it and I'm going to have to brush up before Joker comes out but idk where to start. Do I need to watch the last Joker to understand this one? What's the relationship to Batman? Is this the same Joker? Who is Deadpool? IS NO ONE GOING TO HELP ME WITH THE POST OFFICE?! Jnick8 530
Joker and Batman are in DC universe, as is Harley. I recommend watching Joker. The others will not be related as this takes place in a separate ‘universe’ ;-)

Anderson123 36,439
You only need to watch Joker to understand Joker Folie a Deux. The rest of DC movies are a separate universe from it (as of right now). Also Marvel: Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, X Men, Fantastic Four, Guardians of the Galaxy, (Avengers) etc. DC: Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman. (Justice League)

Well not exactly Batman but they acknowledge his existence and family in Joker 1. Spoilers: Spoiler Batman is still a kid in Joker 1.
Reality 73,807
Girl, Joker’s not even Marvel, it’s DC The only thing you need to watch is the first Joker movie. That movie is an Elseworlds movie, which means you don’t have to watch any of the other DC movies in order to understand it. Same thing for Joker 2. ᗰᗩYᕼEᗰ || 🦇👹🖤
LaFama 4,423
4 minutes ago, HelloHangoverz said: so Marvel is a universe? I thought it was just the name of the comic book brand? Marvel and DC are two different editorials. The movies based on marvel comics (Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Deadpool, X-Men, etc.) are known as Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The ones based on DC comics (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Joker, etc.) are known as DC Universe (DCU). For the new Joker you don't really have watch any other movie other than the first one, as this is gonna be it's sequel. While Marvel has a strong and connected storyline (each movie takes place in the same universe), DC is pretty much all over the place and is still finding it's foot, so it has a lot movies that are not connected and have no relation with other movies from the same studio (and seems like it has a reboot on the way). In this case Joker movies are it's own thing and are stand alone stories, not even related to Batman movies (Joker is a main villain in the Batman comics). So in short, you just have to watch Joker (2018). Hope this helps Its not a fedora u f*ck

skaxboy 4,900
DC is what you want to watch. I recommend to at least watch Batman (1989) and The Dark Knight to get familiar with the character. They are from different cinematic universes so they aren’t the same Joker. If you would like to read a graphic novel, check out Batman: The Killing Joke. The animated movie was okay but the book made me look at the Joker as a real evil person. There are a few episodes from Batman: The Animated Series where he is the main villain. Mark Hamil voices him. Check out “Mad Love” which is Harley’s origin story. “The Jokers Wild” is a good episode without too much Batman. Batman doesn’t kill. He and the Joker have a complex relationship and Batman has had many chances to kill the Joker, his moral code doesn’t allow him to.
androiduser 7,438
it would be great to check out the first movie with Joaquin Phoenix to see how the Joker character is portrayed in the movie, to understand him better in the new one. There is no need to watch the other movies with the Joker character, as they can be quite different portrayals of the character in different franchises, so it won't entirely connect to the portrayal in the first Joker movie and the new sequel. Guest
2 hours ago, HelloHangoverz said: so Marvel is a universe? I thought it was just the name of the comic book brand? Marvel is the real world brand, the fictional characters, places, events, etc. make up the Marvel Universe. The movies produced by the company (owned by Disney since 2008) make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Their properties include the Avengers, X-men, F4, Deadpool, etc. Batman (and related properties, including the Joker and by extension Harley Quinn) belong to another company, DC comics, and the fact that you confused them makes me want to commit a hate crime (joking). The Joker and FAD are set in a separate continuity from the rest of the DC films, so you only need to watch Joker.
